I was at Borders tonight and saw the concept 2005 Mustang in the latest issue of Motor Trend. Doesn't look too bad, but I'd like to see a coupe version.

 THAT'S EXACTLY...what I was thinking..lol.
It looks like a sad puppy dog. :wtc:
Is it just me...or does it remind you of the Thunderbird? I wouldn't buy that thing even if it was the fastest car on the planet for the buck. :puke:
It also looks like they took a truck...and squashed it. Think Dodge Ram. :ugh:

i think that is prolly the ugliest angle of the car..i saw some other pics in that issue and its not so bad...muscular retro kinda way..not my thing but prolly appeal to a lot of people?

Ford has taken a step backwards, but hey, they've been doing that for years with the Mustang. Once they got rid of the 5.0, many people just became disenchanted with the Mustang completely.

Huh? How is replacing the crappy old push rod 5.0 power plant with a more powerful, more efficiant, mulit valved overhead cam 4.6 liter V8 a step backwards?

the stangs are getting nastier every model redesign. The mid 90's mustang was a beautiful car... i believe it's called the fox body. It looked muscular and had the sexy curves. I guess as long as the performance is boosted, you can't complain about the looks that much.

They made the grill way too big. it would look better if they followed the concept just a little bit closer shortened the grill and made the headlights bigger. I want to see it in another color though. Black, silver or blue. when it looks like this I'll consider one.

If I'm correct, the 5.0 had a lot of potential, whereas the new powerplant is OK, but not as promising. I don't see how it was crappy though...I mean, I see so many old 5.0 Mustangs still running strong around my area.

If there isn't an intercooler behind that grill, close up that huge phuckin void. Jesus it looks like they couldn't figure out how to style the fron clip so they jsut left a big hole with the ghey mustang emblem in the middle.

i think it actually looks nice for a mustang, but what i'd really need to see is the production model. i remember when the last gen concept car car was unveiled and that too looked real nice, but the production version looked real cheap. the interior materials shouts "concept" and you know the real thing will be completely different.

You are correct, but you have to allow the aftermarket parts grow for these new GT's... I believe they will be as promising as the 5.0.

The silver one looks good. The convertable I am not so fond of. I wonder how they will manuver.
"look at this link....its really just the current body with a differnt hood/fenders/bumper"
No it is not. It's a new car on a new platform.
Blue Batmobile
01-07-2003, 07:42 PM
From what I've read in MotorTrend, they borrowed a few existing odds and ends from the current Stang, and also did alot of improvising. New platform though, I believe.

This is where I show my age over a lot of you, me being 30. I grew up with these kinda cars back in the 70's and personally, I love it. I'm actually a chevy guy when it comes to muscle cars but I gotta say that if the production model looks like that and I fit in that car (unlike the current model), I would trade my Celi in on it.
Blue Batmobile
01-08-2003, 05:29 AM
Hehe. Not so fast Jamie, I'm older than you:D.
Bat
I, too, am over thirty and I wasn't fond of the seventies offerings from the US. They were HUGE tanks compared to the VW Scirroco, Fiats, Alfas, Porsches and the odd Datsun.
Yes, this is a muscle car not a sports car, I understand. I don't find the car to be particularly attractive in any respects. Hell, I worked on that Platform and was glad to get away from it. But then, FoMoCo could never get me into a Mustang anyway so "no hurt, no foul" I guess.
Glad to see some of you like it. Hopefully it will sell well.

I have also like the gm pony cars over the the stang (particularly the firebird) but I know if they do decide to remake them it will probably be in retro theme too and I never really cared for the 1st & early 2nd gen birds.

OMG, You gotta be kidding. The 1st gen Camaro, the 69 in particular was BA!! I bet if the Camaro comes back out it will be modeled after the 69.
Hey Bat, I had no idea you were older than me. Huh, go figure.
I'll be 31 next month. :(

The first gen camaro was okay....... but I never given camaro's a second thought. I always been into T-as and I didn't start liking the styling of them until 78 model year up.

It's got too much sheet metal on top. It needs a few more curves from the 68 fast back and I'd like it. They need to tone the rear lamps down just a tad and give the front a meaner look.

Damn, I'm late as **** for this thread, damn OT :)
The silver one looks MUCH better than the red one, but frankly I still think they took a step backward with it, I like the 2000 model MUCH better, the retro look doesn't do it for me at all, I saw this magazine at the gym the other day and almost cried when I saw what they did to it.

Personally I like this model A LOT. I think its a huge improvement in looks over the current model mustang. My dad has an 02', and its an alright car.. nothing i'd get excited over, but he said he'll trade his 02' in for this new one any day.
I really love how they brought back the old look of the 65' mustang fastback. I'm a big fan of that model, so the new retro look really sparks an interest. I think this mustang is the best looking car they've thrown out in a long while. I'm excited to see this car out on the streets. Not to say i'd ever buy one.. i just think it would be a nice change. I think its also smart for Ford to go the route of a new retro look... a lot of people love the classic mustangs (old and young people, i'm only 20) so this one is going to appeal to a large crowd.

That car looks pretty tight, and after seeing the silver on, i realized that the lights are ok, it's just the reflection of the lighting that makes them look bad.
