I'm lost on what springs to buy, I have spent the last hour trying to find out what is the best spring to buy but every body has different opinions. OK here's the deal, I want to lower my car, I'm keeping the 15's with low profile tires it came with when I bought it and keeping the stock shocks for a while, I want to have an even drop all the way around with about a 3 finger gap between the wheel, I want to spend between $200 and $300 but I want the best ride and drop I can get for that amount. I'm not sure how much space is between the wheel right now but it looks ugly, I have noticed that the celicas stock all seem to be riding a little high for a sports car. I want to have that cool dropped looked with out scrapping so any advice would be great. THANKS !

How much of a drop will the Tanabe springs give ? Also from some of the reading that I have done I'm leaning towards the Eibach springs unless someone can let me know from experience which is better Tanabe or Eibach !? Also why is the Eibach drop 1.8 in front and 2.4 in back won't that make the car look uneven.
Thanks for your help.

The sportlines (eibach) do that type of drop, and actually make the car flat looking...it doesn't look uneven at all. If you look at the back, you'll notice that it sits a little bit higher than the front...actually, alot a bit higher than the front. If you want looks, go with the tanabe, sportlines, or coilovers. If you want performance, then go w/ hotchkis progressive spings, hotchkis coilovers, or TRD springs (eibach pro kit)

I've got the eibach sportlines, so if you want to see some pics, just PM me...i've got them sitting on 17's, but if you want to see them on 15's i can take a picture right now and have them for you in a few days (riding on my steelies at the moment)

I've got the Tanabe Superdowns as well and love the drop. Be warned though, that when they're done settling...about a month, the drop is about 2.5"...

I still don't understand why people drop their car...does it really look all that much better? So much care goes into driving a car after that because you're always worried about scratching...

First off I want to thank you all for your 411. The reason why I was looking for new springs was because I ordered Skunk2 springs about 2 and a 1/2 months ago, The seller/website ( which will remain nameless ) is listed in every issue of super street, they gave me a hard time, I heard it all, from the springs are on thier way to were sorry but they are on back order, thier customer service sucks, I didn't think I would ever get them I even made a fraud complaint with my credit card. Well 2 1/2 months and I finally got them. I want to give all of you some advice, When ordering something it is best to call and make sure the item is in stock or that they know the amount of time it might take for you to get your item rather than I don't know, now I'm wondering if Skunk2 with 2.5 drop is the right thing to do, any body have Skunk2 springs ? How is the ride ? Thanks again !

you should tell us who you bought the springs from, so that we don't buy from them either

I think that Dooly is running Skunk2's. They look great, and actually look a lot like the Tanabe's. I would ask him what he thinks of his setup. As for the problem with lowering the car, it's a tradeoff. I, and many others, don't like the lifted look that the Celi has stock. When you think about it, it's really a huge gap, and much bigger than it should have been. Dropping the car does solve that issue, but creates the issue of having to worry about scraping, etc. You just need to be more careful when going over speedbumps, avoiding potholes, etc. For me, the tradeoff is well worth it.

Decide for yourself what is more important for you. Keep in mind, that when worried about scraping, you can sometime return the rideheight to somewhat closer to stock with larger rims/tires than stock. If you decide to do this, I would recommend doing so after having the springs settle. Then get the new rims and tires. THEN get an alignment to straighten everything up...

Good luck,

Usman

Well I installed the Skunk2 springs today and I have to say the Front was easy but the back was a Bit@h , I didn't have spring compressor or anything like that so I used the jack that came with the car, I had a red celica which I got new in 2000 and I installed Matrix springs which were a piece of cake to install but ride was ****ty , That celica was a total loss after an idiot hit me from behind ) however I swore I would be back because I love the way the Celica looks and performs so last year I gave myself a B-day gift in Feb and went and bought my current celi, which some idiot hit in july by running a stop sign , however I'm in the process of getting that fixed, Both idiots that hit me were over 60 years old, not that I have anything against older people ( both my parents are over 60 but don't drive ) I just think older people shouldn't be allowed to drive, I have seen a lot of accidents involving older folks. Anyways sorry for the long story but I had to through that in. After the install of the Skunk2 springs I drove for about 1 hour over the worst part of the 5 FWY by Dodger stadium and I have to say I love the Freakin ride, feels smooth didn't feel any bumps like before, handling is awesome, 2 finger gap in all for wheels car looks even all the way around and I don't know if it's just me but it feels faster I don't feel my car bounce on take off like before. Well I want to thank you all for your info, and I must say again this site is DA BOMB !
