View Full Version : remote start
Hey, my mom has recently purchased a used 99 camry and under the hood it has a warning about the remote start system, but we dont know how to use it. It seems to have the same alarm/keyless entry system as the celica and I do remember seeing an auto celica with remote start at a dealer one time. does anyone know how to use this feature or turn it on so that we can use it?

Depends on what kind of alarm or starter you have, I remote start my car by pushing the alarm on and off buttons at the same time for a second or two. Try that first, I dont think that will blow up the car.
For one thing, the Toyota factory remote that came with the camry will have nothing to do with the Car Starter. I am not aware of any Toyota dealership anywhere that carries a Factory Toyota Starter, it just plain doesnt exist...so...
Either the vehicle no longer has a remote car starter (removed before when it was sold and they didnt remove engine sticker), or it does have the starter...just missing the remote.
If I were you, grab a flashflight...stick your head under the dash, and go searching for the starter itself. Look for any kind of aftermarket tampering that would make you think there was something installed. If after all that, you can find the unit...I would be willing to bet it was removed before you got the car.
If you do find a unit, grab the model number, anything...and post back here. Then we can try to find you some kind of remote for it!
