i dunno if it works, but it sounds like a good alternative to replacing the whole strut

i'v had the same problem for the past 6 months. it keeps coming down every single time i open it. then when i go to toyota to get it fixed/replaced under warranty, it somehow seem to stay up when the guy checks it out:rolleyes:

ya know, thats pretty dangerous

just yell at them, imagine if your 5 year old brother had his hand in there!

Only in cold day the trunk would come down automatically. It's like the lubricant inside the tube is not lubricanting.

I have to bring it mines also, I gotta wait for a cold day to bring it in or they gonna say they didn't find any problem with it to fix it.

when i first bought my car, this was a problem.

i brought it into the dealership and opened the trunk. a few minutes later it came crashing down. now, imagine if you had take groceries into the house and you left the trunk open. my 5 year old brother would come down to try to help bring in groceries (kids ya know) . . . . SLAM, there goes his hand

the dealer was upset when he saw this and replaced it right away

Easy to use. Lift hatch. Spring-loaded bracket automatically locks in place when hatch is fully extended. Release bracket to lower hatch. Easy to install

We have ours replaced soon after getting the car, we had stronger struts fitted, yet it still drops. They basically arnt strong enough to support the heavy spoiler. :(

Poor poor Toyota!

well i don't think the stock spoiler is that havy. if i had a after market spoiler, i know for sure yota would have denied replacing it

The SPOILER isn't the heavy part. I've held it in my hands...it's not that heavy at all.

Try lifting just the hatch up by itself..THAT'S where all the weight is. That HUGE window pane is simply heavy as hell.

When I had my wreck, they had to purchase BRAND new shocks, because the new hatch weight mored than the factory produced hatch.

It's extremely heavy, guys....that's why I think a CF hatch would do wonders for the Celica.

This is a CF hatch for the RX-7...does wonders.

I had this same problem when i first got my car. What they told me is that they did not change the struts used to keep up the trunk when they added a spoiler so it falls. They are different trunk struts for spoilers and no spoilers. I guess its cheaper for Toyota.

Go to the dealership its covered under warranty. Well at least mine was...

How long does it take for toyota to fix the problem?

I'm going to bring in my car during a cold day so they can test it out and fix it.

Been waiting 2 weeks for them to replace my shocks and they say they will only replace 1. And yet when I took it to them it stayed up and would'nt fall.

I have been looking for something too, cause I got a trd style wing, and ever since i put it one, it wont stay up. Toyota wants a fortune for new shocks.

My Hatch struts went bad well, id say within six months of having the car, toyota replaced both of them for me, but it took weeks to get the parts. I hope there not very expensive cause im sure when my warrantee is up I will have to buy some in the future, it looks easy to replace just a few bolts.

can you show what did you get as a better / stronger replacement? I'm out of warranty so bringing it to the dealer isn't really an option

Just go get replacements at Pep Boys... they're not expensive.

Just look at the list of cars on the package, get one comparable in size but, get one that works on a bigger car, with a heavier trunk. That's what I did.

I don't remember the name of the company that makes em though.

I agree 100%, Ive pulled off the stock celica hatch and it takes at least 2 people...Way way more heavy then the stock hood...

Whoever change out the shock for the trunk from Pepboy. Please post up the model number and brand. I don't want to go through the hassle of trying to get the right one and have to return it a couple of times. thanks.

yup please! I don't have pep boys here so it will help if I can see a pic of what replacement you bought, so I can find something similar.

I changed them over 2 years ago, I don't remember that stuff. Just go to a local Auto parts store, and ask someone for some help. It's not that difficult people, my god.
