We just got 6+ inches in Durham NC last night.
I was driving home from just west of Nashville TN. We managed to make it within 60 miles befor ethe snow hit, then it was slow going. Cars off everywhere.
We had little problems in our rental ford pickup. It is 2WD, but has the 4x4 suspension and tires, and we had a 450 pound air compressor in the back to aid traction.
Speaking of the compresor, that is my new toy. Ingersol-Rand, 60 gallon, 5 HP, 175psi max, 220volt, etc. Should be a nice upgrade over my little buzzy direct drive unit.

Waiting for frozen precipitation in the northeast too. Been ready since mid December. Got the winter set-up on the Celica. 185/70-14 BFG "Winter Slaloms" on 14x5.5 Daimler-Chrysler k-car wheels, complete with OEM (from them) wheelcovers. Only looks a little funny.
One storm last winter they plowed in my street and I had to go around through my development to get to my house. The snow was so deep it was coming over the hood. During another one all the main roads were gridlocked so I took the over the river and through the woods way, including a few unplowed 10% grades. Didn't get stuck anywhere

Only an autocrosser would run "Winter Slaloms"

What was even better than the name was that they fit a typical autocrosser's budget for things other than those racing related. $46/each at BJ's Wholesale Club.:D

Not that this is relevant or anything, but I just wanted to complain - I'm driving from my parents house in NJ to Austin (in the Celica) when I hit the aforementioned snow. Once you get the hang of it, snow on the interstate is kind of fun, makes highway driving exciting (not). Anyways, I'm now trapped at my friends house outside of Charlotte, forbidden by the steep ice covered driveway - at least there is a cable modem :)

Yeah, we've been pretty lucky. The only problem is that when it does snow three flakes, they put down an inch of salt on the road. My car had two huge grey/white stripes down the sides from all the salt :pissed
