what do our celicas top out at when stock? is there also a govern on it, and if so, how do i get it out?
depends if you have the gt or gt-s and if its auto or stick. there is no governer on our cars that im aware of. i think the autos top out some where around 125 on both and i've heard of gt sticks going about 130 and gt-s sticks going about 145.

i have a picture somewhere on my cpu, of some guy in a gt-s doing 150+. i dont know where this person did it but he wasnt touching the redline either. i believe he was around 7200rpm and pushing 150+. whoa...

Alot depends on weather conditions and if you have a body kit or not. At top speed, drag will make the biggest difference. The cars will be the fastest with stock bodywork running in high temperatures. I had my car (GT-S) doing 140 and that was about all she would do a few weeks ago in 5th gear near redline. Temp was around 30 deg, so very cold. I have a TRD Mechanical front end, so drag coefficient is higher than stock and AEM CAI. The TRD front has a large gap where it doesn't connect with the stock underbody plastic. It allows air to flow past the end of the CAI and I think affects its performance at high speeds.

Maybe he was going downhill on that top speed run

that's could be true, i would be sh*t'n my pants if something was on the other side of the hill at 150.:shocked
The mag's say that stock GTS 6peed will top out at 133. I have seen that number from a few different sources. With a mod like a CAI you will probably, and I am just guessing, top put at around 140.

The mags are wrong. I have had my stock GT-S up to 140-142 a few times on the freeways! (level ground, not up nor downhill)

I have maxed my GTS out twice and both times its about 142mph and that is at around 8200 rpm in 5th gear. This was on a flat road. My car is bone stock and no kits or anything.
I don't like to go that fast anymore, it's too scary. Just think what could happen if you spun out or whatever doing 140. :(

i punched my car as soon as i got to california..this was like three weeks ago.... on I-10 going towards LA... i got up to about 138 and my RPM was at 6600....so i figure it would climb up to 140 easy..... it still had power...

I had mine GTS (no body kt and no wing) to alittle over 140 and shifted to 6th and got to 145 but let off because did not feel stable on the ****ty so cal interstate I was on. but we need more power to much more than that lost almost all the pull in 6th.

u guys are awsome..thanx so much for the input...the reason why i was asking is because of one of two things... (1) if i did alot more mods i was wonderin if the govern would kick in and stop me... (2) i was thinking about puttin in 100 shot or so of nitrious, because i aint ganna spend 3500 bucs on a turbo..none the less... 6000 on a turbo (cause i got a GTS). one more question...since gts has a high compression ratio of 11.5:1 would that 100 shot be "cuttin the edge" (so to speak) with me engine. i don't want it to blow---its the only car i got.

I wouldn't go more than a 50 shot on a Gt-s with stock internals. It's not a good idea to use nitrous for a top speed run.

Heres the pic. This is Cliff aka Phewl coming back from i believe willow springs raceway. Its not downhill but a perfect straight road.
The Auto GT-S has a governer chip on it. Max speed is 125 at the end of 3rd gear. when you shift to 4th the rpms drop from 5800 and stay constant at 5500.

How long did it take you to go from 140 in 5th to 145 in 6th? I don't understand how you actually gained speed when shifting to 6th... I've had my gts up to around 137-138 in 5th (@~7800rpm) but as soon as I shifted to 6th, the speed dropped significantly, as I was expecting. I don't think there is enough horsepower to gain any more speed in 6th, the gearing is too tall for the wind resistance at those speeds.

i have a pic at home of 151 or so from when i did that.. also once i raced to 150 side by side with another Celica.. i can see maybe 155 or so 160+ downhill ;)

with the cooler weather, Injen CAI, and Kazuma, I am able to stay in lift shifting into sixth and still slightly accelerate past 150 or so..I'd imagine if I had enough road that it would pull all the way to fuel cut in sixth, seeing as our cars max hp is near that point. So theoretically, I could see 178 or so..I think that is where 6th max's out at fuel cut. Maybe someday I'll find an empty road long enough to try this out.
ps-I wouldn't try any of this with other cars around..no need in endangering other peoples life. :-)

I don't think that are cars actually go that fast, I'm not saying that any of you are lying, it's just that from what I have heard the speedometer is off by a couple mph. I think someone used their gps system to figure out the exact mph and the speedometer was off a lot from what it said.

I remember I talk to my friend about the top out speed of our celica. I know that our car can go pass 120mph because I did it once and my friend got scraid so I slow down. My friend with a 2000 GS-R say that his top out at 120mph so celica the should top out at 120mph. I gonna try this again and put him in the passenger sit and make his eyes go

I've noticed that too. Up here in Edmonton I've used my GPS to calibrate and found that at 60 on the speedo, I'm actually doing about 54.
At 100, about 93... I suspect by the time I hit 220km/h on the speedo - it could be out by a bit more.
Best bet - find a GOOD raceway, and try it on a roadway with a long straight, or head out to bonneville.
Seems a little irresponsible to drive at those speeds on a public road. Not to mention, the celi isn't faster than Radar, or a Helicopter. (And certainly isn't tougher than a guardrail at that speed.)
Cheers.
