the novice school seems like a good idea, so i think i'm gonna go to that. if anyone else is interested, let me know and i'll let you know the person to e-mail (i think there's only about 40 spots for it and it costs $50). also, you can go to http://www.atl-scca.org/soloII/area_events.htm for the complete southeast schedule.

Wow. I didn't realize all that was coming up so soon. I may try to go to the class thing. Where is Lakewood? I got the TRD exhaust ordered. I'm hoping it will be here before our meet on the 12th. I need to look into a few suspension mods before march as well. Are you planning on going to most of the events? It looks like I'll be in town for all but two of them.

I should be able to make it to all, but one or two of those. Do you have any details about the novice school?
Where is Lakewood? I think it's a mall.

i dont really know much more about the school, but e-mail barry saney (bsaney@bellsouth.net) for more info. also, here's a copy of the e-mail describing it that i got the other day...

1) What is Novice school?

2) How do I sign up?

3) How much does it cost?

4) Do I even qualify considering I'm no longer a Novice but I've only run one
event after graduating out of Novice and only four Solo II events total?

and...

5) I have a friend who is not on the mailing list and is wondering about the
novice school (feb 16th) and basically what does it involve, etc. Can
anyone clarify this? Thanks.

The Novice School is really for drivers with little or no autocross experience, and will benefit those the most. You certainly qualify with less than a year autocrossing under your belt. That said, even some seasoned drivers opt for a Novice school now and then to reinforce the basics and then move on to an Evolution school to get to the next level.

The school teaches the basics of driving the course: looking ahead ,cornering , hand positions on the wheel, slaloms and proper braking technique. There will be a classroom session, course walking, baseline runs by each student, in-car instruction and practice runs. Seat time is king at this level so we strive to give the student the max possible runs.

Those interested in the Novice School can email me indicating such, cost will be about $50 and it will be on a first come first served basis limited to about 40 students. There will be more specific information as the school time approaches.

For a certainty the Novice School I took early on was an eye opening experience, complete with Brett Howell( FSP National Champ!) grabbing the steering wheel while I worked the throttle in the skidpad!!
There is no reason to spend a year trying to figure out stuff when a school can teach you so much in one day. And add to that, the next day you can practise again.

hope this clears it up a little. also, not sure what events i'm planning on going to. it would be fun to go to them all but i think even with SCCA membership they're still $15 or so each time and not sure if i wanna pay that a few times a month, but i'll just see later on. oh, and the only lakewood i know of is the amphitheatre which is a little south of downtown. there's also a flea market or something next to it and a ton of big parking lots, so i'm guessing it will be in that area. hopefully we'll find out more soon though.
