wats up. i'm lookin for my first car and i really like the celica. i've been readin thru alot of the forums and i read people write that if they could do it all over again they would't get a celica.and i've read that insurence is alot for a gt-s. so now i don't know if i want the celica anymore. i saw a 00 gt-s for 16895 and don't know if i should get it. i'd like a stick, but i don;t know how to drive stick, i wanna put some aftermarket stuff on it but i'm not going to be racing it. i'm still in school too so i'm not going to be workin all day to pay the payments.i have a part time job though. i don't know if i should get a used stick gt so i don't have to pay alot for insurence,or get something else, like a civic si i saw at a dealler for 13500,or a 240sx i saw at another dearl. wat do u guys, and gals think
thanks for the response.

I respect that. In my opinion wait till school's over to get a flashy car.

i would say just get a used gt stick........
I would say that if you don't know how to drive stick yet you should not get a GTS 6 speed. This is not a transmission for a beginner. It is not a bad transmission if you know what you are doing and are comfortable with a stick but I can just imagine you trying to learn in a gts and it is not a pretty picture.

I learned stick on my GT-S, although the clutch is fried. If I were you, I'd learn stick on another car. Then get the GT-S. Test drive a GT-S and see how you feel. If I had to do it all over again, I'd still get the GT-S.

the GTS is not a beginners car. i learned to drive stick on it.
not everyone is capable of doing what i did.
I drove for at least 8 hours a day trying to master everything and keepit below 3k rpms on berak in. by the end of it i could rev match...shift quicly and precisely and everything
i drove like a grandma for the first 1000 miles though....i still drive like one...sort of.
the GTS is a fun car but id say dont get it.
driving this car the RIGHT way is next to impossible without expertise.
it drives just like a yamaha r6 (note that yamaha helped design our engine)
in the fact that it has a VERY peaky high rev based powerband.
If you dont know how to handle it....you won't be around.
I treat the celica like the r6. sure some guys get it as their first bike....lots of em end up dead or wrecking it.
same way with the GTS.
its a powerful beast if driven right. otherwise its either slow or a death trap.
its easy to get yourself into a situation you cant handle without good driving skill. it has a tendency to "fishtail" at high speeds if you dont control it right.
but it shouldnt matter...FWD car.
be careful if you get it.
otherwise id suggest a toyota matrix with the AWD platform or a used integra GSR.
much easier to drive.

Go for the GT thats what I did I bought it new in 2000. It was my 3rd car but first stick and 1st one that I paid for (still am) this one is the first non-hand me down. It is great because insurance doesn't kill me and being 20 and still in school that is great I was quoted around 3000 a year for the GTS and only pay 2000 for the GT so. It still has the great ceilca look and it is just as fun to drive IMO.

If you saw a Civic Si for less than $17K, I'd be going after that! Not too bad of a price, they usually go for at LEAST 20K here in New England. Anyway, I wouldn't buy one of those imports to learn to drive a stick. I had a couple of cars to learn on about 4 or 5 years ago, and I don't regret using those "less expensive" cars versus using my 300ZX or even a brand new $25000 GT-S. Its just not worth it. First you have to stay withn a certain RPM range for the first 1000 miles and there has been plenty of problems with "no-knowledge" drivers pushing the stick into a lower gear in red zone RPMs, which are costing the owners plenty of money either through the labor in a remanufactured engine and/or a car rental in the meantime.
Buy yourself a sh*tbox for now, and learn to drive a stick on that. Then go save up the cash and/or credit and buy a GT-S or that Civic Si.
Just my $0.02.

i learned how to drive in an automatic and then stick while i still had my learners permit. for like half a year i drove the 89 corolla 5speed to learn stick. i was very comfortable with stick when i got the GTS, only had to get used to the short clutch and delayed gas-pedal action. now when i drive the corolla i feel totally whack; the stick is ultra loose and the clutch is hella long.
learn stick in a nother car then get the celica. learn stick on an older car, so u dont mess up the newer car.
