i was about to leave HOT SHOTS last nite when this guy came up to me and ask if i drive a yellow saleen...i told him its mah friends' but he's still inside the pool hall playing....he said he wants to race it....i ask him wut car he drives and told me its a '97 mustang gt....so i ask him if he wants to race my car....he ask if i was sure...of course i said yeah!!! he told me he cant really get a good launch so he wanted to go from roll...so we went on westheimer....we doing 10 mph and waiting for him to give the go signal...he gave the countdown using his fingers...3 ...2....1...bammmmmmmm vroommmmmmmmm.....i started pulling on him but @ about 85-90 mph he started gaining...he beat i say about one car @120mph....gave him the thumbs up and proceeded home....

'96-'98 GT's, 5-speeds at least, would make for a good race stock to stock for a GT-S 6-speed. My ex '97 GT 5-speed ran consistent high 14's at ~93 mph for comparison's sake. It would top out at just over an indicated 140mph (17" tire package, no speed limiter). Good run! :)

New '99 up GT's are a whole different story, stock with a good driver they're capable of high 13's at over 100mph.

Thats weird, was it stock? and are you stock? cause i raced a 98 GT from a dead stop, (both cars were stock then) and it was totally opposite of that. he pulled a little through first and second and then in third i caught up and it was over after that, i just kept on pulling away. It was a convertable though and it was a friend of mine so i know he is a good driver and he didnt let up at all. I think that with a CAI and a good exaust the celica should be able to beat a GT 5 speed without too much trouble.

thats kewl, i have beaten a few mustang GT 96-98 by like a carlength or so. I have also raced the newer mustang GT stock of coarse at the drag. Got him by like a car or so. Then I raced one on the freeway...got him by a car by 120 or so. Mustang GT are fast once they are modified but stock its beatable.

no way in good god's green hell are you beating a 99 up mustang gt with a competent driver in a gt-s without nitrous or billy brun driving it. and even then, equal drivers the GT would win.

beating him by a car at 120? once again...at those speeds unless the bastards as suicidal as you and right next to you at WOT is there really

sorry, but to think people still think this..

99 up 5-speed GT's are good for high 13's bone stock down to the paper air filter, they trap from 97mph on a crap track up to 101mph STOCK.

with 3.73 rear gear and some drag radials they can hit low 13's with ease. so PLEASE, and im not singiling you out, but PLEASE realize that at 120mph he had probably let off, was in 5th, or you got a crash test dummy driver in the GT.

car to car, equal driver to driver, the GT would stomp on the GT-S...period.

of coarse you have doubt but when I raced the mustang on the freeway it was from 80 to 115, 3rd gear to 4th gear, thats it and it was quick. I had a car on him in 4th around 100. My friend was in the car and he can vouch for me but I don't really care. I know they are fast cause I have seen them at the track. I run 14.4 consistently and am pushing near 14.2 soon (need new tires). On the street using g-tech i get 14.0-14.3. As a comparison, my friend in his S2000 is getting around there too using g-tech and I'm keeping up with him so you can say what you want to say. I brought the g-tech with me to the track and it was pretty accurate, the g-tech reads 14.6 and i got 14.4. I launch so much better on the street always landing in vvtli during my launch whereas at the launch it would grab 100-400 before vvtli. My friend in the s2000 is a really good driver and so am I. S2000 and Mustang are close. I only raced 2 99+ mustang so anything can happen. Its all about driver and in this case I'm the better driver. I know if it was equal driver, the gt mustang would win. But if you're a good driver then anything is possible.

good kill just seems wierd cuz you would think it would be the opposite with the mustang winning down low becuase of the torque advantage and then the Celica taking over up top..who knows though.. good kill anyhow :)

yea all Mustang GTs 3rd gears suck. Even the knew ones, if you raced on the highway he would only beat us by about 1 to 1 1/2 car lengths. You relaly should have probably beatin him in your race, but good job anyway. Amazing a 1.8L can be as fast as a 4.6LV8.

tel him he better be careful with a 150 shot...keep in mind his upper intake is abs plastic..it doesnt like 150's without raised fuel.

i think they updgraded his fuel pump and his injectors....the shop wouldnt install his nitrous system without upgrading his fuel system or something....

OK, good!

too many modulars have blown that upper intake on the 150..125 seems to be the most you can run reliably on stock fp, injectors, etc.

BTW...find out what gear he's running on that thing...
