how does a all aluminum 5.4 dohc 4v v8 with a roots supercharger good for 500hp sound?

how about on a car that weighs <3000 lbs?

how about coupled to a ZF transmission?

how about 6 piston disc brakes?

4.22:1 rear gear?

28 gallon gas tank :)

Welcome to the dawn of a new era..Ford set to produce the new GT-40 to compete against the Viper.

http://www.bonforums.com/cars/2002_gt40naias.htm

Here is a quote from a designer of the GT-40

"I got to work on the design team for the "new GT-40". We did the drivetrain development/packaging in the chassis, here at Roush (we do alot of work with SVE). When the design studio gave us the first body scans for us to design the drivetrain/chassis to fit into, I told the other guys that it looked like a remake of the old GT-40. Nobody would agree with me until I brought in pictures of the old ones. Every time they changed the body, it looked more like the old GT-40. At first I was like "Oh great Ford is building a kit car" but it turned out to be production quality.

It is basically a larger, updated, more civilized GT-40. The wheelbase is a few inches longer, track is a couple inches wider and roof is a couple iches taller. The interior is very different than the old style to make it more comfortable, although there are visual similarities. The blown 5.4L was a mofo to fit into the new chassis.

I haven't seen the finished car in person yet, but did get to see the engine run on a test stand and installed in the chassis.

Ford had us design this showcar with production intent. They want to take on the Viper and probably that new Caddy supercar, not the Vette. It will be about twice the price of the Vette, if it is produced. I think all this info is in the article so hopefully I won't get in trouble for posting about it."

Bout time us Blue Oval guys got a supercar to drool about, don't ya think? This thing is gonna be truly BAD ASS! Debuts at the February Detroit Auto Show.

Hell yeah Ford!

OMG. It sounds awesome. I'm just not sold on the retro styling. I want futuristic styling with my ultrahigh performance car. The new Vipers have looks to die for. The Z06 looks good but doesn't compete with the Viper. The GT40 needs alot. Looks like an old Mach1 with a revised nose.

are you for ****ing real? viper? **** THAT, the McLaren F1 is only 2500lbs!

this is like another Saleen S7 but in the body of a GT40 and maybe an entirely different engine. so maybe nothing like the Saleen S7 except it's another supercar related to Ford.

well..technically itl be the first supercar built BY Ford in well....as long as i can remember. keep in mind the Saleen S7 uses all Saleen parts, chasis, etc. it utilizes a 351 v8 pushrod ford block though..

the real beauty is the fact that the original GT-40 was damn near Holy at its time, i believe i heard that it is the only american made car to ever win the manufacturers world cup..

has quite a history..

the retro look i think looks great, much like the 99 up mustangs, the bullitt, the new t-bird...i think that if you are looking for a company remembering its storied cars of the past and reproducing them but staying true to them..its Ford. The design i think looks almost ferrari-esque. even though the gt-40 design is prob. what ferrari copied off of..

The reason that the origional GT-40 reminds so many of the Ferrari is because it started as a joint venture between Ford and Ferrari. Henry Ford III and Enzo were working on the car together for the 24 hr of Lemans until Enzo backed out of the project. Ford completed the production of the GT-40 on its own and went on to win LeMan's 1st 2nd and 3rd that year. Another interesting little fact is that the name GT-40 the 40 acctually came from the height of the car (40.5 in).

Sweet. I was hoping for something a li'l more futuristic, but retro is cool, too.

I was wondering what Car & Driver was talking about in the latest issue. ;)

I like the retro look for this car. It's like a daytona and a 906 melded.

The GT40 was truly dominator in its' time

Guys, you know you can buy GT40 kit cars. Most people throw 351W engines in them. I saw a really sweet one once with 180 degree headers (headers wrap over top of engine to match better with cylinders on opposite bank for better breathing). It had two motorcycle style exhausts on the headers and was loud as hell! I personally would try and get a 351C from Australia, much better motor.

And the original GT40 was built by Lola.

Actually most GT-40's that appear at Vintage races have been totally rebuilt (not with kit car parts). A couple years ago I watched a Gold GT-40 barrel roll from 4a to 5 at Road America. The car ended up on top the guard rail and the driver was unhurt (except for his wallet). In the spring the car was back at RA and in the same pristine form as it was before the incident.

The "new" GT-40 is supposed to be at the Chicago Auto show, I will be there Tuesday February 5 for load in and hope to get some pictures.

The GT is was one hell of a car. Please read the attached, there had been a lot of erroneous info posted on this thread about the car. http://www.turbocharger.co.uk/ford-gt40.html

Horsepower per liter: 88.9

Now if only they could squeeze out 100hp per liter like some cars I know!
