From my experience at the shop i work at, sony xplod amps seem to be problematic, usually by just shutting down because of offset or overcurrent. The new sony amps are on their way to the market, shaped like a pentagon and supposedly more reliable. I would wait a month and try one of those if you must have sony. just my opinon though :)

I had one for less than 20 minutesa nd it blew.I got it installed drove the car home with it on (not that loud either) and it blew halfway home. I had to go back and return it and got an Alpine amp instead.

yeah i'm more interested in sound quality than loudness, but the xplod amp that i was lookin' at was 75w rms X 4 that was teh same price as the alpine 40W rms X 4.... i knew there had to be a catch if they are offering all that power for so little green...

Wait a minute here, you want to buy an amplifier for sound quality?? Excuse me? Typically, everyone SEEMS to think that amps sound different. Well, they do, but we CAN'T hear the difference. To our pathetic human ears, we can't hear the difference between solid state amplifiers.

If you want a nice tight amp, get one with a very high damping factor (like JL Audio). Other than that, all amps sound the same. And yes, you may quote me on that.

If you are looking for something cheap that will last, I recommend either Pioneer or Profile. You many be thinking, dude, I don't want Profile crap in my car. I've installed those amps on some 42-foot boats, and after 3 years of waves and crap, they are still holding up. The Pioneers are also a good choice for something cheap. They have a very solid construction (I've ripped them apart before).

You don't need to go out and buy Xtant amps to make your car sound awesome. If you want your speakers to be nice and clear, give them lots of power. If your speakers are rated a 100 watts RMS, then get an amp with 100 watt RMS or more. And DO NOT turn the gains on the amp all the way up. That is very bad to do. It's not a volume knob.

Just make sure you give the subs/speakers more than enough power. Then you will have no problems with distortion or anything.

If you've got any more questions, just PM me. And if you still want to think that amps sound different, PM me. I'll send you to a website that offers $10,000 to the person that can hear the difference in amps. And it's a real thing. I've met the guy. Go to CarSound.com and check out the forums there. They will knock you on your ass.

sound quality is usually has to do with air dimensions, enclosures, and subwoofer technology, shape, size... etc.
