I went to the shop to pay for A/F gauge they forgot to charge me when I had the FTC1 gear installed, and I saw a Spectra Blue Celica in their garage. Out of curiosity I asked him whats being done. Turns out TRD let them use a brand new 03 celica to play around with, they are playing around Variable Valve and Lift engagement points. It is still in the experimental stages, but they are given a deadline, gotta be ready for Long Beach Celibrity race. Mark (person I spoke to) is very optimistic about this, said they are well on their way.
This is good news for peps who are going NA and want quicker engagement on the VVT and/or Lift.

Damn those guys over at Split Second really know what they're doing for TRD to come to them for help.

Yes they are good. I think part of the reason TRD let them work on this project is because they are less than 5 minutes away? :)
and I am less than 10 min away from both of them :)
More information, Mark (contact at Split Second and probably the manager/owner) he said they are aiming for Lift to engage at around 6000rpm. I think this would shave some time off the 1/4 mile :D

Uhmmmmm Hit me if I'm stupid but 6k is where my lift engages...:)

I was thinking if it hit around 5,300 rpms we would have 3k of lift I had a D16 mini-set up (non V-tec block with SOHC V-tec head) and I found that 4,750 was perfect activation and run it to 7,750.....BUt that Honda :D

2000 model year GT-S lift engage at 6800rpm, 2002 lift engage at 7200rpm (I think). Atleast thats what I hear and see on most GT-S.

They need to add it to the project car section of their site.

hahaha they just started work like less than a week ago, so its still a beginning project however they do have some data already. Plus this is work for TRD so I am sure TRD want them to keep this for TRD only for right now, after its done if TRD do not want to resale this item then they can add this to their website.
I see application of this for all VVT engines (Celicas, Corollas, Matrix, Vibes) I am sure they will want to get this out on the market :)

What about the '03? It slams me back in the seat at around 6200 but I think is switches over at 6k

naaa thats the VVT not the Lift, try going past 7200 you will feel something else.

yeah the 2002 sucks! ask split second to come up with a solution to the 02 problem.. i would buy that in a heartbeat!

it really sucks that lift engages so late and only lasts 400-600 RPM depending on gear. its pretty bad..

edit: i know there already is a solution, but if i can do it without changing out knock sensor then i'm all for it =)

sorry guys as you know I have a GT so not sure about engagement point, so what I accidentally did is add 1000rpm to each of the figures I did above.

Better yet call them up and inquire about this unit :)

sooo... to figure out the correct engagement subtract 1000rpm from each of the above figures, same goes for the estimate.

it is still a project, they only had couple days to work on this, but it will be ready for the Celibrity race in Long Beach CA if it works. So far Mark said he is very optimistic about this, and because of recent increase Celica business David Draper cough cough and me cough cough he is paying more attention to Celicas :D

As for how much not even sure it will be on the market for quite awhile, afterall they are working on this for TRD if TRD decides to buy this project then it may not see light of day :(

Man if TRD buys this out from them and it actually works and then TRD doesn't offer it then we need to burn all Toyota dealerships LOL!!! You know if TRD gets hold of it they are going to want an ungodly amount of money for it!! But maybe someone will offer it to us!!

maybe they can do a new and improved version... with some more tweeking which means its not same thing and they can sell it, who knows... Still hope they can make this work, if they do it would be easier to stay in lift and that itself wouldn't be bad :)

Lift kicks in at 6200 on any GTS model, Mike. VVT is an always going type of thing.

well I don't know about GT-S I have a GT thats why I was confused when I posted wrong info in the So Cal section. Just too excited for people and posted up too quickly before finding more info, besides there are not that many more info to be had because it is still in beginning stages.
