I was racing this weekend..I rev to about 6300 and then quickly let off the cutch and mash the gas, it would be above 6k the whole time the tires were spinning, but as soon as it would hook, it would limit out at 7k and wouldnt be on the big cam. If I launch at 6300 and slip the clutch slowly and get a just a little bit of spin, it hits lift just fine...

Two questions..

1.) Am I the only car that does this?

2.) What paramiters does the ECU look at before it will let lift engage?

Ive come up with a couple, Throttle position, Oil Pressue, RPM..There has to be somthing else..Anyone know?

so your just dumping the clutch at 6300???
it catches as some point???
ive been trying all different types of launches lately and dumping it at 4300 spins the tires to about 5800 or so then catches and hits lift.
if i dump it around 4800 to 5000 then it seems to catch way into lift and then when i shift at 8300 it falls way out of the cam (weird).
im happy with the 4300 dumps now.
i need to go try it at the track.
i was slipping the clutch too slow at the track it seems now.

sorry to answer your question, it doesn't seam right.
when it catches it should be in lift, but its stopping at 7k?
that doesn't sound good...
was it doing that at the track with your 6k drops?
be carefull not to screw anything up man:(

Now I've never driven a GT-S, but why is it every GT-S owner is convinced they have to launch their car above 6k? Just because your engine makes more horsepower at that RPM doesn't mean it's going to find the pavement. If it did I would be launching at five or six thousand RPM myself. If I try to dump the clutch at 5k+ RPM my car just laughs at me and burns the clutch and it doesn't even hop off the line at all. I think the people with the best GTS 60 foots on the board are launching closer to 4300.

im was launching too high at the track i think.
it was slipping then dumping it but i think i take to long to slip and i loose a lot of time.
i got back and have been talking to a gts owner that has gotten consistent 14.4's and he dumps the clutch at 4500 and gets 2.2's and got a 2.1 before i think he said.
i saw his slips and they're pretty impressive
his username is microrice or something like that.
how do you launch Maelfyn?
i know you get 2.2's in your gt

When I was launching at the track, I would slip the clutch above 6k because at the track, you hook and If I didn't slip the clutch, it would bog below 6K..I thought somthing was wrong with my car, but all the celica do it..If you get too much wheelspin above 6k, it wont hit lift..I guess its almost traction control

I agree, I launch without squeeling and hit it. I still run 9.8's in the 1/8 which isnt all that terrible, considering I am not dumping.

My car does that too. It won't switch if there is lots of wheelspin or doing burnouts.

the rev limiter kicks in at 7000rpm if u're stationary and moving at low speeds. I guess the ECU figures something 's up and won't let it rev higher. Probably the same reason the lift cam won't kick in.
