Ok, so I was 'kinda' racing my friend... (I say kinda because it wasn't like a whole from the start thing... he passed me so I accelerated) and as i was shifting from 3rd to 4th my RPM's sky rocketed to red line bad. My first thought... "MISS SHIFT...FU*K" On my dash the e-brake light, battery and cel came on. I pulled into the first street near by and pop the hood. No smoke or any clicking sounds. One of the bands was broken however (the one for the alternator i think). Then I got back in my car, turned it off... then back on and tried to go to see if it would run. It did... however I smelled something really quick so I stopped. I think what I was smelling was clutch. Right then I said to myself.. hell no im not moving it, so I called my dad up and he helped me tow it, which was freakin' hard since I have a body kit. Anyway.... the car moves (somewhat... smell) the engine turns on and off like it was normal, just a weird small sound that i hear when I put it in gear.

What do you guys think? Blown engine? Blown Clutch? I'm getting it checked tomorrow... but I was wondering what u all thought about it.

Oh and by the way... my steering wheel is HARD... like I have no power steering or something. I checked it, and there's plenty of fluid. Why??

Thanks in advance!

Sounds like either the belt came off, or you busted it (doubt it). Doesn't sound like you mis-shifted at all, just had a loose belt and it popped off when you hit high rpms. Did it ever screetch when you first started your car? That's an obvious sign of a loose belt.

You better not be running your car with a belt. The belt turns the altenator (charges your battery), turns the water pump (cycles antifreeze), power steering pump (gives you power steering)

Without antifreeze cycling through your engine it will overheat and seize!!!!!!!!!!

They give licenses to people who don't know they shouldn't run an engine without a fan belt?

By the way, the burning smell was prob the belt rubbing against the pulleys. Since it sounds like you can step on your clutch and disengage it to start the car, i'm sure there's nothing wrong with it.

dude... i know about not running my car without a belt... heh!

So u think its just a belt? ahh man, if this is true... u just made my day. heh, i just cant afford much fix ups right now (after all the mods if added recently).

Oh and yes, I did hear a screeching sound at start up from time to time... was rather embarrassing!

what about the cel, brake & battery lights? that common if a belt falls off?

Oh and there are two belts right next to each other. One came off... the other is still on, but neither turn when the car is on.
