So I'm done with class and headed towards my apt.. I'm minding my own business when all of a sudden a Ford Taurus runs the red light:angry:. I instantly reacted and slammed on the brakes. The light must have been green for at least 3 secs. So that means that his side turned red for at least 5 secs. cause the lights around here goes red on all sides for about 2 secs. before it turns the other side green. I'm so glad this accident didn't happened cause I was doing about 35-40 mph and the Taurus was probably doing the same. I was so close to hitting this guy. I was in a state of shock for a sec. and couldn't believe that this just happened. I just headed back to my apt.. I'm so thankful that Toyota did such a wonderful job on the Celica brakes. This car literally stopped on a dime, this is just one of the reasons I love my car so much:headbang:.

I've been in a slip training with the Celica and the instructors were amazed by the preformance of the car.
It was a lot better then the Audi A8, Alfa 156, BMW 520 and VW Passat who were also there that day.
Great you could avoid the accident !!!!!!

Although you lost me on the lights for a sec, I definetly agree that the Celica's brakes are the shiznit.

i understood him fine :fawk:
i agree about the brakes, saved me in countless close calls. i've developed a bad habit of braking late though...for everything. guess it's only bad on the street. :naughty:

the celica saved me the first week i had it. this dumb kid who was with his mother (probably learning how to drive) pulled out into the highway without looking and i had to slam my brakes to avoid hitting him. in my old civic, i'm certain i would have hit him. and probably killed him.

even though i agree that the celi has great stoping distance from a decent speed, does it have a good stopind distance from lets say 70-80mph??? cuz acouple of days ago, i was coming home from a friends house and i was taking the parkway. for some reason the car infront of me did a complete stop on the parkway:AF:..she was a good 10 car lenths in front of me ....even though i slammed on the breaks, i knew i was going to hit her cuz the car started to drift forwards:eek: ......that's when i had to use my tranny + breaks to come to pretty much a complete stop

celica brakes are good. but don't rely on them too much.

whoa! that must have been so close! ....yeah good thing the toyota brakes were so good cause that would have been terrible! i just love how quiet the celi is as well on the roads...its just a awesome ride period:)

Are you guy's talking about Ceilcia's with or without ABS ???
Just for knowing ( Here the ABS is stock, but I think not in the US).

My celica doesn't stop for ****!
Mainly because when ever i'm in that close call kind of senerio, i always freak out and slam on the breaks and lock them up.
now, if i don't lock up the tires, it does stop on a dime...and thats a GT w/ no rear disks

Three letters for you bro, ABS.

i've matched the brakes a few tiems, came close to locking up, but never did.(left 2 nice fat rubber skid marks about 5 yards long tho) i think the GT brakes are as good as u can get with the disc/drum setup that we have. some autocrossers (i think) use the stock brake setup and do just dandy.

my celica does not have ABS. ABS is an option for the celica over here in the states. it should be standard. it is on most cars.

How much of a difference is there between the stopping power of a GT-S (4 discs) and GT (2disc/2drum)? I think my GT stops pretty damn well, but I can't help but wonder if the 2 discs I'm missing in the back would really help.

Glad to hear you're okay.

The GT is lighter so that may counteract the extra braking power from the rear discs. Also the rear discs in the GT-S shouldn't be that important since they are the rear brakes and do very little for braking power.

I was going to work the other morning and feeling kinda crappy, i guess i nodded off for a second cause i snapped my eyes open and the van in front of me was stopped. I was probably doing about 40 i nailed the brakes and stopped in time. THANK GOD for these awsome brakes!

I have ABS on mine and did use it once when someone pulled out in front of me leaving me nothing to do buy slam my brakes as hard as I could. It's a really weird feeling when the ABS takes over and the pedal starts pulsating. Definately saved me from an accident though.
