Hey Larry,

Looks cool,I have the same unit in my Yr 2000 Celica with the 6 disk changer and a PS1 Linked up.

I may have (but then again may not) have a few probs with my head unit as below, can you tell me if you experience the same with yours.

1.I added a 400w V12 amp to drive the sub.Because the pre-out voltage on the unit is 4v I set the gain on the amp to the min position (fully anti-clockwise) which is also marked 4v.The bass output was very low until the main vol was cranked up high ie 20 or so.Turning up the amp gain increased the level but the bass sounded terrible not musical or controlled just louder.I sent the unit back to Alpine,it was tested as Ok but they still gave me a new unit.

The bass from the new unit sounds a lot better but you still have to have the gain on the V12 turned up to half way even though it says 4V at the min position (maybe the figs on the amps don't refer to those of the head unit preout?)

2. Because the dash of the Celica is quite steep I have my screen set so that it is tilted fully forward. If I have the new unit set so that it opens/closes with the ignition it fails to return to the origional position and you have to press the angle button to move it forward just one more positon.I am sure that tis was not the case with the unit I returned But when I spoke to the guy at Alpine I was told that its just the way they are manufactured and that they just dont remember that fully forward position.

If you (or anyone else) could tell me how cranked up your gain is and if your monitor remembers that fully forward position I would be very grateful.

I hope to be getting the Alpine in dash DVD soon just want to get the head unit sorted first just incase there is any probs

Thanks for any input and good luck with the new car

Steve

2 things )

the amp is have is only for the sub..its a MRV100M or something of that nature.. 300w mono sub amp.. i have it turned up half gain, with the bass on the headunit at 0 and sub on headunit at 2.. plenty enuf for me, more then i ever had in the Celica..must be that mono part :)

as for the head unit angle.. mine never rememberd the damned angle either when it shut everytime.. so i went into the int settings and changed it so it doesnt open/close with ignition.it stays open all the time now unless i close it..

the alpine 800 will not remember any tilt adjustments...unfortunately...i highly recomend going in and resetting it to be manual open/close over ignition...reason is a simple one i have gone thru two others a 1005 and 800 that the gears slip or strip and then they no longer open and result in a very expensive repair...only thing to remember the lcd does not like extreme cold or heat and should not be open for use till a more reasonable cabin temp is reached....enjoy your systems

Thanks for the feedback guys,at least I now know there's no probs with my h/unit.When the guy at Alpine told me that theres no screen position memory I thought this must be Bull just to stop me sending it back a second time.I wonder if they've resolved this issue on the replacement unit the 806 (not that I will be upgrading mine).

Stackmaan I note that you have the DVD which I hope to be getting soon.

Firstly re the mounting of the unit...I'm thinking of mounting the two units in dash using thouse metal brackets (rather than the std DIN cage/sleeve which we normall use here in the UK) and building up a new front panel from MDF.Do you have any pics of your install or any tips.

Then the AI-net connection....With the autochanger this single connection takes care of everything (ie power,Control interface,2 channels of audio). Is this the same with the DVD or is it the case that its just there as a control interface between the two units and you need to make additional connections re power, audio and video.

I believe that the DVD has AI-Net in and out so that the cd auto changer just need to be daisy chained.

Thanks

Steve
