Stock 2003 GT-S shift gates same as 2002?

Just wondering if Toyota kept the stock 6 spd shifter of the 2003 the same as the late 2001/2002 models? I hate how my shifter sits over to the right while it's in neutral, not to mention the sloppy feel of the widened shift gates while rowing thru the gears...

I dunno for sure but my gates are pretty wide. I literally have to angle my palm to push the shifter to the right and up during a fast 2-3 upshift, if not I hit the little space between the 1 and 3 gears damn it! I heard that the 00-01 kinda had shfit gates spaced like the NSX, dunno cause I've never driven an 00-01 GT-S. Is there a way to solve this problem? Will a SS help close the gate gap? I heard the transmission on the 03' has a misshift lockout so why the need for the wider gates? Typical toyota, they fix one problem just to add another! Don't get me wrong, the shifting action is VERY smooth tho, no notchiness and very soft, with a nice click in every gear. VERY similar to the RSX-S, it's just the gates in the 1-2 and 3-4 are spaced a little wide for my taste, I'm use to it now tho, you just have to change your shifting habits.

Can you change out the shift gates? Or is that internal part of the tranny?

Tranny are different too..... I belive..
It's not worth the swap.... too much work and money..
Just learn to live with it.... even with early 02 fuel cut off.. but once I can save up money for ECU and Knock sensor.. it's gona be swapout ASAP.....

yea...of all the model years...02 gets screwed the most. well i already the parts for the ecu swap so one of my problems will be fixed soon

the gates are inside the tranny so switching out a short shifter won't help with the way it is but it will lessen the throw considerable...you should take a look into the TWM shortshifter, its great and really short. What they did was put a new fork in the transmission, thats why its so wide. I had the 00-01 shifter but after taking my car in for syncro, they decided to put in the widen shiftgate, damn them. Oh well. After that I just got the TWM and its perfect. :)

I have no problems with my 03.......only thing is that the 4-5th shift is way to long and I have a hard time finding it sometimes...(GT-Schick had to mention that to me :D smart a55)....going too far to the side......yes the 03 tranny does have the miss-shift lock :D don
