What have you guys heard about this?

"All Vibes except the AWD version are front drivers and utilize running gear from the Toyota Celica, meaning they share that car's pair of 1.8-liter inline fours: one (for the base and AWD cars) with variable valve timing (VVT-i) that makes 130 horsepower (123 in the AWD due to a more restricted exhaust route) and the other (only for the GT model) with variable valve lift as well to produce 180 ponies. Check this **** out - Car and Driver tested it in the latest issue. What do they get for the Celica which is over 250lbs lighter... 0-60 in 7.2s, 15.7s 1/4 mile. And for the Vibe/Matrix...0-60 7.3s, 15.7s 1/4 mile. Maybe they've finally learned how to drive this transmission, time to go retest the Celica. Of course it doesn't help that the Vibe/Matrix has an 8,200 rpm redline (I don't know what that **** is about, not that I care since I don't have a 2002+ Celica), which certainly helps the 1-2 shift.

the matrix/vibe shifter is also reported to be easier than the celica (00-01 at least, i bet it's around the '02 shifter, cuz people can hit the 1->2 shift without needing a higher rev limiter. i've seen it).

Well, Car and Driver said the shifting sucked, and Motor Trend said it was great, so, who knows if it is any different. It does have the same transmission, but different connectors.

I just test drive the Matrix XRS today... The shifting is more soft than GTS; the car feels fast and lots torque steer. Only thing is it doesn't handle as well as ceilca but the price is a lot cheaper than GTS. Toyota did a great job on this one...
