Can a mall security guard give you a ticket?

I drove through a mall parking lot on my way to breakfast today (7:00am mall was empty) When I got out to my car there was a "Westfield Shopping Center" parking ticket on it. Under the violation description the "other" box was checked and "speeding" was hand written in. At the bottom of the ticket it said "Issuance of Tukwila, (city I was in ) traffic ticket.

I suspect they will be turning the ticket into the local police office here... Would this crap hold up in court? I mean "Westfield Shopping Center parking ticket".... come on!

Never heard of that before. Once I had a security guard chase me down and stop me for running a stop sign in a college parking lot. Turned out he was a police officer that moonlighted as campus secirity, so he probably could have written me a ticket if he wanted. Instead he just gave me a 5 minute lecture.

I don't think they can for moving violations. I'm assuming mall security has the same standards as Public Safety officers on college campuses. I've gotten my share of parking tickets and have gotten dirty looks from Public Safety when I blow stop signs, but I've never seen one handed out for actual wreckless driving or speeding. They're just Rent-A-Cops.

we have a cop at our mall like that whos goes around giving tickets like that but i dont think anyone pays them so i wouldnt worry about it

lol, 50 years from now, you get a bill in the mail foir like 5mill because of interest on the unpaid ticket
