Been a long time since I've posted here. Today was the last straw. I special ordered a fully loaded 2003 Celica GT-S over 5 months ago. At the 4 month mark I called the dealership to ask where my car was, and I was told, "we have confirmation your order is being built, should be here soon". I'm thinking, "WTF! Confirmation my order is being built, you said the car would be here within 12 weeks time!". So, I give it another month, call, and get the same answer. Finally today I called, and said to the sales manager, "This car was supposed to be here 2 months ago. If you can't tell me the car will be here in 2 weeks or under, I want you to credit the $500 back to my credit card for the deposit, and I'm cancelling my order". Well, he told me the car would definitely be more than 2 weeks out, and greatly apologized. He promptly credited the money back to my card and it was done.

I then ended up calling just about every Toyota dealership in the Metroplex, and none of them have a freaking GT-S, and if they do, none of them have ABS or side airbags. "Hello Toyota, it's 2003, what the hell are you doing selling cars without ABS or side airbags, proven life saving devices?!?!". I won't buy a car without them. They all give me the same BS line, "oh, the Celica GT-S is a very special car, limited production vehicle. You will have to special order the car if you want it like that".

I said screw this bull, and my girlfriend and I went to my local Acura dealership. They had plenty of Type S's, and suprise, suprise, Acura has enough freaking sense to make ABS, leather, side airbags, moonroof, alarm system, 16" wheels/tires STANDARD EQUIPMENT! I test drove the car again, and said, "that's it, I'm buying a Type S". I'm now the proud owner of a black 2003 Type S, with foglamps, rear spoiler, and window tint. Tomorrow I'm going to Bridgestone tire dealership to replace the crappy stock tires with S03 pole positions. Later on when I have a little cash, I'm replace the shocks and springs, and throw on some bigger wheels/tires. For now the car is great, and should handle just as well as a stock Celica with the upgraded rubber.

I don't know what the hell is wrong with Toyota, but it is ridiculous they are making the Celica such a difficult car to get. I see Toyota commercials now, and you don't even see the Celica. It's almost like Toyota is embarassed by the car or something. Well, they lost a customer because they can't get their sh!t together.

Celica was my first choice, but with the huge aftermarket for the RSX, I'm acutally much happier with this car now. Hondata, I/E/H are my next mods.

well...you don't see that many RSX commercials either, right?

after a while, the car just starts to sell itself.

when the celica first came out...which is in 2000, they had tons of commericials.

when the RSX first came out, they had many commericials for that too.

toyota is not embarrased of the celica at all. it's a good performing car.

anyhow...good choice on the RSX. have fun with it. yea...and that sucks about how they lagged your celica.

Sounds damn familiar... Trust me bro, I was really pissed. I love the Celica, but damn, I'm tired of being jerked around. I really didn't like the looks of the RSX (still don't like it as much as the Celica), and I always knew the handling and braking of the Celica is better than the RSX, but what the hell was I supposed to do? I just got tired of the bullsh!t, so I went with the RSX. It wasn't my first choice, but after some engine mods and suspension wheel/tire mods, I think I will be much happier with the car. I don't have any extra money to throw into the car now except for the new rubber. My out the door price for the RSX was $24,950 ($500 over invoice is what I got the RSX for). I put $6000 down to get good payments, so I'm a little strapped for cash right now. I left just enough money to buy new tires tomorrow.

Hey man, I love the Celica. As far as I'm concerened they are both awesome cars. I have mad respect for the Celica, and you'll never hear me acting like the cocky RSX owners who think they can kill a Celica in 0-60 or 1/4. It's a drivers race. Thanks anway man.

BTW, you RX-7 is badass, no wonder you got rid of your Celica for that. I think the new RX-8 is sweet too.

hey bro ,i had the same problem at toyota ,i wanted abs on my car too,but all i heard was bs...same sh*t that you said, they told me.after all that waste of time they told me toyotas celicas dont come with abs .i said then why is it a option then?????.he could not explain .so i took my business elsewere.but anyways congrats on your new rsx,i too so have a new rsx and a new celica, they are both nice cars.your car has more power, spaceand better leather seats for sure, but i like my celica better just for the looks.i also think that you should put a body kit on your rsx too .that will look soooo awsome.i wanted to for my rsx but dont have that much money right this moment.as for the celica i feel your pain ,toyotas so greedy on options it was tough for me to get a good deal on my celica.but it was easy for me to get my rsx because all options were in already.toyota dealers need to learn to give better service to special orders.

Ive never ever seen a GT-S in my entire life without ABS...Also, I have noticed that the Dealers don't carry GT-S's hardley at all anymore. When I first bought my Celica....They had a TON of GT-S's....sad...the GT-S is slowly being phased out = (

sad to see a celica enthusiast go with another car. but rsx-s is basically the same car. Have fun with it man, and don't take your frustration on the brake in period :gap:

if i remember right, they raised the price of the rsx-s up a little? how much was the out-the-door price of the celi?

if i remember right, they raised the price of the rsx-s up a little? how much was the out-the-door price of the celi? My out the door price for the Celica would have been $26,300. That includes every option Toyota offered on the car except the Action Package and HID's (can't get them in Texas for some reason). It would have been a 6 speed too.

Yeah, I really like my new RSX, just hope down the line I don't have buyers remorse. Too late now, Toyota needs to SERIOUSLY ramp up production of the Celica (with popular options, don't make ABS or side airbags optional), or I suspect other frustrated potential buyers will go elsewhere too.

Seriously, this is a Celica website, why would I want to post pics of an unmodded RSX? You've all seen the car, nothing to write home about. ;)

I got my 03 GT-S with ABS, Floormats, HID, Keyless Entry, Action Package, Wheel Locks, LoJack, for 25,987 OTD It would have been 25,337 OTD but had to pay them to ship it down for me, for some reason I couldn't get HID option in so cali either? Had to get my car from North Cali.

dude WTF would you get new tires? beat the piss outta the one's you have then buy new tires. s03's are freakin expensive. You could get some springs to make that hiriser a bit lower...
heck you could almost buy new struts and springs for the cost of 4 s03's ... or a CAI or something like that...

Ya know?!!!

I guess it depends on what stock tires the RSX gets. I know the WRX gets RE92's... POS!!! They are widowmakers!!! Most WRX guys will tell you the first real performance mod are a new set of rubbers.

You guys are right, you don't see that many Celica's on the lot anymore. The only ones you see are GT autos.

My GT-S has no ABS or side airbags. But it is sad that there are less and less GT-S's in dealer lots........whenever I've gone to my dealer all I see are GT's and a $hitload of Camrys and SUV's.....sad sad sad....

what celica where you going to buy?

You can't go wrong with either car... a major upside is that the RSX has an excellent aftermarket already, even though the current gen Celi has been on the market much longer... I wonder why that is???

Bought this 02 back in July. They DXed it from NY. Sticker was 27-it has everything including the mirror,cd changer, for an 02. Too bad it only has 4 K on it-its sits for the most part. Got it for 25 grand on the road. Try getting a GTS with cloth seats:(

I like the RSXS-very nice car!!! Good luck with it

DGS,

Sorry to hear about your lousy dealer experience. Don't fret though, the RSX is a fine car also. I agree with many of the other posters here - I haven't seen a new GT-S on any lot in quite a while, or any Celicas for that matter. Maybe Toyota is weary from all of the mis-shifters, and is reducing production to limit it's losses?

I bought my Celica in '00 similarly to the way you bought your RSX - (flame suit on) it wasn't my first choice. I tried many unsuccessful attempts to buy a GTI, but inventory was sparce, and the dealers would not budge from MSRP! In the end, I am much happier, as the Celica has a sportier feel, without the VW coilpack/window regulator/MAF/second gear debacles. The Celica has been very reliable, and good on gas also.

Enjoy your new ride!

-Nick

OUCH! Has Celica pricing increased that much? The MSRP on the Z car enthusiast is only $28,250. Sure it has no leather (cloth is fine), Bose (most owners aren't impressed) or 18's (17's are still bigger than the OEM Celica wheels), but it has the LSD and HIDs. If only I was car shopping today..........Hmmmm

Did you get a base or the type-s? Either way, you won't regret buying the RSX, well, you might if you got the base... For the first mod, change the crappy stock tires.
