I went to fill up my car yesterday and pulled the gas door release. The gas door didn't open. so I thought maybe I didn't pull it hard enough. I pulled the release tab again, but it wouldn't open. So I had to pull the release with one hand while reaching with the other to catch and open the gas door.

Has this happened to anyone  Is it because it was cold out??? It's been colder outside before, but I never had a problem with my fuel door.

it's probably because there was some ice in there that froze it shut. i've had my door handle frozen so that i couldn't open it... had to go to the passenger side to open the door.

damn you must have some long arms to be able to reach the lever and gas door...go you!

:D I was thinking the same thing. The Celica is short, I love it!

I had the same gas door problem with my old Probe (the door hinge was broken) and I would have to ask someone else to help me open the door while I pull the lever.

I'm not sure about the ice theory. When I pulled on the lever, I could see the door trying to open. Then I release the lever and the door just goes back to the closed position. If it was frozen, I'd think that the door wouldn't budge at all

The metal tab which acts as a spring may have bent inward. On my GT I bent it out so far that even when the door was iced shut it would pop open.

i somewhat have to do the same when i fuel up...like i could open my gas can without holding the lever but it doesnt pop out as far as it should so sometimes i have to do the good old hold the lever and open the lid...

Same problem here, I think it's the tab on mine like Deaks2 said. I had to use a credit card, and pull the lever at the same time. Thank God for short cars.

Keep those fuel doors lubed!
I almost ripped mine off. I noticed that when I open the door it wasn't always swinging on the hinge, the metal was bending.

A couple of good squirts of WD-40 on the hinge and now its swings right open.

Know I know why TRD made the $200 clear fuel door.
