It will work at any rpm so long as the rpm in the gear you are moving to is attainable. (there would be no misshifts if we all skipped the clutch).
Just pull it out of gear (this works best if you do it just as you are letting off the gas), rev the engine (for a down shift) or let the engine slow down (for an upshift) and slide it into the next gear.
It take a little more finesse than I list here, but it's your $20,000 car, you abuse it as you please (I learned to do all of this on a '79 Corolla with over 100,000 miles on it - the car was 9 years old and worthless when I got it).

yeah, memorize the rpm/mph points for the gears. pull out of gear, look at the mph, then rev to the proper rpm for that mph for the gear you want. it should go in.

Who said you could post in here... You have an automatic :D
Hey I never knew you could do that, shows how much I know.
So say I was in first gear and doing about 20mph, I want to shift to second gear. Do I just let off the gas all the way then take it out of gear and then rev up to the min mph on second gear and put it in second gear?
If I want to downshift from second gear to first gear, I would have to slow the car down to within the first gear mph range and take it out of second and just put it in first.. yes? no?

:(
exactly, i don't use a clutch to shift :D ;)
playin around with gear ratios, i memorized pretty much the rpm for every mph in every gear in the auto and most of the 6-speed. so i stumbled upon that, then talked to some friends with 6-speeds, and they confirmed you can do that :p

clutchless shifting is done for a reason, not just becuase you think it's cool... but HEY, who am I to tell you what to do...
just remember
clutchless shifting will lead to a clutchless car if you use it to frequently and do NOT succeed
Have fun and GRIND AWAY!!! just don't blame toyota :p

yeah... power shifting is all up to you...it is one thing to get the RPM and MPH down... but it is another when you blow out your tranny like i did when i slammed it into third power shifting.... luckily i knew a mechanic at local toyota, so he fixed it under warranty...just keep in mind, not all toyota dealers r so kind....
u do wat u wanna do wit ur car but once mistake has been made, you shall regret and cry :sad i did.....
Power shifting is not for everyone, especially for ones with automatic :D

Agreed. Clutchless shifting in a 80 HP, $1000 car at 2000 RPM is okay, but if you are driving a $20,000+ car with 180 HP at 8000 RPM you PROBABLY should use the clutch.

80hp? You really think that Corolla had 80hp?
Mine was a base model, it had the 3KC motor (pretty sure it was the 3K). 1.2 liters (if you round up). The only option the car had from the factory was the 5 speed manual.
Didn't even come with a radio (no radio, not AM, not FM, none).

it will only work at certain RPMs..... you have to be exact, if not kiss your synchros good bye or your tranny..... if you decide to try it..i suggest you do it slow and play with your RPM first.... otherwise u gonna hear "gezzzzzzeeeeeeee" oops grindin' :D
Once u get used to your RPM and all other technikz, then u can really start slammin gears......
DO NOT BLOW YOUR TRANNY OUT CUZ IT IS PAIN:D

If you're not racing and your patient clutchless shifting is not as harsh as some of you claim. Most of the wear should not occur on the synchros it'll occur on the guide teeth as they grind into the holes of the gear you're engaging. Wear is minimal if your easy on it. It's only a little more than if you're careless with your shifting in the first place. In fact it's probably less sense when you're not paying attention you're more likely to be jamming the gears into place instead of being gentle. You do NOT want to lay off the throttle completely. The transmission needs to be in a netural load state. Meaning forces coming from the engine and the wheels need to be fairly balanced so that there is no load on the gears when you dissengage them. You'll want to maintain a constant speed on a surface with little or no grade to remove the load on the transmission. You should be able to just slip the gearbox into netural at this point. Once the gear is dissengaged you need to match your rpms for the next gear. You don't have to be totally accurate. In fact I found it better, while I was learning, to overshoot the rpm mark and then pull lightly into the gear as I slowly drop the revs. The gear should pop into place with little resistance. If you hear any grinding hit the clutch put it back in gear and try again. It takes some practice. It's a neat trick, but that's about it. I wouldn't use it for anything except betting a friend that you can get somewhere with out using your clutch.
