00 silverado?

so my friend has a 2000 chevy silverado 1500 with the 350 v8. ive been it many times and it has a $h!t load of torque so it feels very fast. well the other night we were coming home from the bar and he wanted to race me. first race we were getting on the freeway and he guns it so i do to; i took him on the onramp turn(of course) and proceeded to walk him bad. then we get on the street and he wants to go from a stop. i told him to honk three times and we go. every run i spun my disapointing kumho's 712 bad and he just floored it and left me abour 2 cars back and i was never able real him in all the way. i would slowly pull on him but not enough to catch him. i also missed 2nd twice so he got an even bigger lead that way. we ran to about 80-85mph..so, close to top of 3rd. this was the outcome of all 4 races from a stop. he never even spun his tires, just catapulted forward instantly of the line. we then went from a roll at about 45-50mph were i was in the powerband in 2nd and pulled on him slowly to about 90-95mph were we stopped. i thought i would have pulled harder but i didnt. i had a friend(175lbs.) with me and he was alone. damn, i want torque for off the line but dont like how they dont have that much at the higher topend speed.

Your joking right? this story is supposed to be a joke, either that or something is seriously wrong with your GTS. There is NO WAY a truck should be anywhere near you in the 1/4 mile. Are you saying that the truck does better than 15 seconds in the 1/4 mile? if it does then that is amazing. I have a friend with one of those and I kept up on the highway with only downshifting to 4th goin like 55, if i would have downshifted to 3rd it would have been over.

im very serious. they are no joke... ive beaten many cars... vr6, typeR, si, etc..etc... but keep in mind none of these imports have 300lbs of torque... i said it took me off the line and i would reel him in but not that fast...so yeah they are pretty quick. even from 2nd(on the big lobe) to 95mph in 4th i only beat him by 2 carlengths...one car lenght between his front and my rear bumper. they have the same 5.7 liter v8 as the z28, and vettes and transams...i think. i also said my tires suck and i was spinning way to much...but the time i got traction he already had a car or (truck:)) on me. my car runs perfect too.

he's a maniac driver so im sure he knows how to take off with the that truck. every launch was perfect! one of the runs i launched lower to get traction quicker cause i realized i was getting killed because of his perfect launches and my tires spinning, but i was at only about 4-4.5k rpms when i got full traction and he would pull on me until i hit lift.

haha... thanks for the death wish SlasherX:) yeah ive never raced anything with torque till last night...wow! i noticed it isnt that relevant once moving and with me in my powerband but off the line if done right, its deadly:)

Damn, I do know the beating torque alone can put down, but I never guessed those things were that fast, Im gonna have to get my bud to line it up against me. Ive raced stangs that havent even put up that much of a fight. Sounded like a fun race, as long as its competitive who cares what your racing.

See, this just goes show you how much driving makes a difference in racing. Simply having a bad launch can easily slow you down by over 1 second in the 1/4 mile therefore making it very easy for someone in a slower car to beat you. I owned a 94 Z28, driven tons of Mustangs, and my father owns a 96 Tahoe. I'm no stranger to "torque". Torque is a wonderful thing. Unfortunately, kids these days have no idea what torque really feels like because their most of their parents drove torqueless Hondas and Toyotas. I crack up when people say my Maxima has a "ton" torque (194fwtq) because I use to drive a Z28 that cranked out 320rwtq. Torque makes it extremely easy to get a good launch and to recover from too much wheelspin. I've rented quite few 2000-2001 Silverados 4X2 and 4X4 for work. The 5.3 Vortec LS1 derived motors are extremely impressive. They makes lots of torque and they make very good topend power for a truck. My fathers 5.7 Tahoe doesn't feel remotely as strong after 4500rpms like the 5.3 does. A 4X2 extended cab Silverado is good for 15.8s which is plenty to beat a poorly launched GT-S. I've wintessed my buddy pull off 15.4s@89mph in his 4X4 standard cab 2001 with just a KN intake. That's very impressive for a 4500lb truck.

That doesn't make sense. I have raced my friend in my parents 99 Silverado Z71 ext cab with same engine as your friends, and he whoops me. He has a 2000 Chevy S10, V6, even stock he won, and with his Intake and exhaust he wins. But when I race him in my Celica I kill him. You should be able to take the Silverado no problem. I wouldnt let him get a big head if I were you.
