My girl wants the new body style tiburon also... Have to admit, they look pretty nice when done up, and the warranty is great. My first car was a 90 Hyundai excel hatchback and I beat the hell out of it and never had a single problem.

I think the new Tiburon is a great deal for the performance you are getting and the long warranty is a big plus.

I honestly think it is a really nice looking car...if Toyota/Honda had come out with it, it would have garnered alot more attention...the only thing I would worry about is the quality of the car...since it is going for so much cheaper then most cars in its class, I would imagine that some corners might have been cut in craftmanship/parts. Although it has a good warranty, do you really want to have it at the dealership being repaired all the time...god only knows warranty issues are never as cut and dry as they seem. The other issue is that this is the first model year of a TOTALLY redesigned car, therefore, I would wait till the 2004 model to make a more educated descision :D My .02

I can already tell there is too many haters just cause the fact it is made by Hyundai. I am a previous owner of a Hyundai and I can tell you they are very reliable. I did everything you can think of in that car, including jumping it... It was alot better made than the 00 Celica I traded in. Out of the 2 years I ownded the 00 celica, it was in the shop for over 4 months of total down time.

the tibby is good for someone on a tight budget who wants a good looking ride and wont mind that its a hyundai and has a cheapo interior.

hey i like it ,the new tib is pretty sporty looking, and did i hear v6?i saw a few around here and with the kit i was even thinking about buying one .the one that i saw is a yellow one ,it was surely a head turner when i saw it.if she wants it get it,who cares what other people say.actually my friends told me not to get my celica ,they said so many bad things about it ,that its way too many to say.they tried very very hard to try make me buy another car instead.but i had made up my mind and one is going to tell me what i should buy .but anyways i like that car as well, its a good looking sports car......also with that v6 that should be pretty fast too....buy what you want and have fun driving it.

The new tib is a nice looking car. There is an article on one in the March 03 issue of import tuner with an APEXi turbo on it. Sounds like a fun ride to me.

Personally, I don't like 'em. They are an improvement however on
the older Tiburons. I never could figure out what people saw in those.

My friend just picked up a 2003 Carbon Blue Tib, it's a nice little ride. You could do worse and since you and your girl both are looking at automatics it isn't performance you are into. So why not? There are a ton of phat kits out for that car already and the interior isn't that bad at all. I say go for it.

I can proudly say I never owned one. But all hating aside I have had friends that had them and they were not that great. They were cheap and when things went wrong that cost a lot they just tossed them and got another make.
I thought maybe the quality increased because they offered a 10 year/100K warranty. But after talking to a few people that own garages or tow truck services they claim they tow Kia's and Hyundai's more than any other car with Fords coming in a close 2nd.
One guy made a lot of sense he said, even if you get a 10 year 100000 mile warranty its not worth it if you have to keep going back to the dealer for service and mess around with that BS. Besides I know many people here can relate to taking their car in and hearing "there is nothing wrong thats normal." Imagine having to deal with that for 10 years.
You might have had a good experience with it but that seems to be the exception.

My brother got a brand new V6 GT Tiburon for $17,200 out the door with only 15 miles on it. If you put aside the hatred of it being a Hyundai, it's a very good deal considering you get the Celica GT for this price. Also there is a $3,500 alpine supercharger you can tack on to make the car a little above 220 whp with very little tuning (dynos on NewTiburon.com). And aside the gills, it looks very good to me with the wide body kit and some rims. So you'll be looking at about $23,000 for wide body kit, rims, and supercharger, which is the same price as a GT-S. Just because it's a Hyundai, doesn't mean it's always bad. The only reason it's cheap is because of the people who makes them cheap thinking they are horrible from supply-demand issues.

It's your type of people that really discriminates things. Is there a problem with telling someone that you drive a Tiburon? It's like saying there is a embarrasement problem with telling someone you bought Safeway cola over coca cola. If you are trying to say that it's a cheap car. I'm not trying to say the Tiburon is a cheap car, I'm saying it's a bang-for-the-buck car. Where else do you see a v6, 6-speed looking like this for $17,000. Much better than the new Si IMO.

Now that statement is just ignorant. I suppose if some members of a BMW use that statement to discourage someone from buying a Celica you would be crying about how arrogant they are. From they was some people in here are talking you would think Toyota has the name brand of Mercedes.
I family member has a Hundai Elantra that has seen hard use for over 2 years with not a single problem. The wife uses it to go to work during the day and the husband uses it to go to work at night so the car is constantly being driven.
I also think the Tib looks great with a body kit.

I would consider buying one if I wasn't into moding my car. It looks pretty hot, decently powerful, cheap compared to other cars in its class and of course there's that warranty that never seem to end. The only problem with it for me is if some thing breaks down and I've moded it. (once the cars warranty has expired I really wouldn't care less but I'd hate to take that option out when its available to me).

17 000 is too much for hyndai. And that warranty of theirs is peice of shiiiii. let me tell you why. My friend has hyndai elantra 2001 and oh yes he has that 10 year powetrain warranty but what a lot of people dont understand is that engine or tranny never breaks down. what breaks down are ex. electrical system... stuff that is not covered by powertrain warranty and plus it's a car that is made cheap. It's made in korea what can i say. I am from yugoslavia and i say that yugo is piece of shiiii but hyndai is piece of shiii too!!

Dude you have a serious problem. 17K is too much for a V6, 6-speed Hyundai Tib? Dunno what to tell ya then. And just because it's made in Korea, it sucks?!? I hope you're not saying things made in Korea are ****. You better go to your local phone store or computer store to see all the **** that Korea makes, such as Samsung and LG. Sprint barely uses any phones except from Korea. Dell uses the Samsung screens. In fact, I don't see anything Yugoslavian here in the US, except Vlade Divac and Peja of the Sac. Kings.....and they suck.

well you got some serious problems. first of all sprint will use whatever to save money. samsung sucks period and that statment explains how much you know about quality. Second say whatever you want but kings are winning the championship this and i have a one question who won the 3pt contest 2 year in a row, and oh yes check this out too, pay really good attention to nba 2003 first draft because it might surprise you(no it's not that high school kid). when yugo was in U.S.A it was only 3000 dollars and it seemed like a good deal, but 17 000 for a hyndai come on.

I will not put my opinion down other than I think it looks nice. Other than that I would say check the hyundai boards to see what kind of probs people have with them. Also consider it is not 180 hp but actually around 163 since it has been proven they have lied about hp number on a bunch of their cars. It is a good price for the car and if that is all you can afford or really like it then go for it. I personally always make sure I buy the best I can afford so that I wont have to do it again soon.
