finally... laying on the wet concrete, 9 p.m., freezing vermont night, hooking up WalMart purchased driving lights so Bat won't be mad at me anymore... kiddin' andy... as ya'll can see, they look pretty good, with a tint of blue, tho if people wanted, they could swap in a blue aftermarket H3 bulb for more blue... the wiring diagram was simple, the wiring harness decent, the switch cheap... what the heck for $40... got a lot of compliments from local folks on it... beware tho, the directions say don't place the lights against a temperature sensitive body parts (car parts, human parts, i don't know) and to make sure to give the lamps at least 10 minutes to cool before washing... anyway, hope the mod works for other people... i like TRD authentic stuff but...

A high pressure wash might make them crack if there hot. They should bust or crack over normal rain

Don't forget if they do break WALMART will take ANYTHING back... not matter how long you've had it!!!

$369/$40= 9.22 So you can buy 9 pair of these for the price of one pair of TRD fogs.

if you are even fortunate to find a pair of TRD fogs anymore

Ok guys, Howler I must commend you on your laying in wet pavement in below freezing conditions, you got more heart than I do and I am sure we can all say thank you for getting those pics up!! As far as the lights go awesome find, they look damn good to me, I am going to purchase some this weekend or I hope I can anyway!! How hard were they to wire up??? Oh and just out of curiosity you all don't think they meant by that, " Do not place near temperature sensitive body parts,"they are warning us about possibly melting the front bumper or anything do you?? I am extrmely curious as to whether or not these could possibly melt our TRD mechanical front bumpers?? Course I don't see how these foglights mounted there would be any different than the TRD ones but you never know these may get hotter or something, do you thibk Howler's got anything to worry about?? Or do u think any of us that may get these might have to worry about those things melting the urethane??

thanks for the props guys... i gotta admit, the pic is a shade more blue than in real life, color balance on new camera? not quite HID but still cool blue and like i wrote, a set of H3 blue bulbs would do the trick... or ambers, or...
dopecelicaGT...
i had the lamps on for about a half hour while taking the pics and talking with an amigo and when i touched the housing to disconnect the lights, there was nowhere near the heat it would take to melt anything... true, it was cold but... i think it was just a disclaimer like "don't eat this toothpaste" kind of thing, having the glass right up against the plastic would melt it, i suppose...
wiring was pretty easy tho i haven't got it installed yet, lamps plug into the harness, then the white plug goes into a relay... there's two under the hood grounds to connect, one hot lead to the battery and if you use the supplied three prong switch, one is ground, one is power, one is return as the kit is set up to run with stock headlights... i decided against that...
diagram is easy to follow, i'm not a whiz at wiring... and yes, walmart will take ANYTHING back... i know a couple of people that "rent" stuff from them a lot
bat...
sent you my addy... sorry...
the hardest thing was removing the bumper, and that wasn't bad at all, just yanking a bit on the male/female tension device that holds the bumper in... hate yanking and breaking stuff...
i balanced the bumper on the workbench, removed the black fake vents, held the brackets up to the top of the opening, magic markered the location, and drilled the 1/4 inch holes in the lip that surrounds the opening, secured with bolts that i bought, not in kit, quarter inch by inch or inch and a quarter long... attached the lamps loose with the supplied screws... and installed the bumper... the rest is the wiring... it helped me to lay out the harness and look at the connections...
if anybody has any questions, PM me but as far as installs go, you could have the whole deal wrapped up in a couple of hours tops...

you talk about bolting the bracket to the 'top opening' is this part of the bumper or the actual car? (TRD front due this week)
h0l0grafik
03-04-2003, 01:44 AM
any more pics of it upclose and what it looks in foggy/overcast conditions?
howler
03-04-2003, 04:15 AM
if you look at the round opening left by the fake black vent like a clock, facing the car, the holes are drilled at 11:30 and 1:30 at the top of the bumper, not the car...
bat... i dont have the model number... box is gone to the dump... the cyberwhites were the only 4 inch driving lights in walmart tho... maybe i can dig up a pic of the box
don't have any pics of the lights in foggy conditions... it won't be foggy in vermont until july, maybe august, the way things are going... 14 below here as it type... sucks soooooo bad...
thanks for the sticky!

Those do look great, Paul!!
To help others understand the location in the TRD bumper where Paul is talking about attaching the brackets to, I have circled the 3 locations here.......Paul only used the TOP 2 for his install:

nice job birdman... that circle stuff is cool, kinda like monday night football... anyway, the 'bird is right, those are the locations, but just think of those mounting points on the mechanical bumper openings, which are a bit bigger than illustrated... trust me, once the bumper and black covers are off, it's an easy install...

I just bought mine and they look really sweet, can't wait to install them. Funny thing is I saw some APC ones that look almost exactly the same in Checker for $15 more. Thanks for letting us know about these, I thought I was gonna have to lay down 500 for some trd ones.

lunchbox...
no problem... walked into a walmart in keene, new hampshire and there was a stack of 'em four feet high... i agree, i don't mind spending good money on TRD eyelids and stuff like that, but the fogs were way out there... enjoy'em, i am...

I went and took a look at the lamp..
Looks very cheap.... BUT I think it's great option for people without lot of money to spend on TRD fog lamp...
I think I'll try that out too..... I've just install fog lamp for my friend's car... I had to drill holes and such.. but this seems very simple..
Thanks.. mad props..!!!

the units i installed at the beginning of this thread do have a slight blue cast when turned on... when off, there is a deep blue color to the lamps... i didn't see any white units when i was there... good luck

So they bolt up to stock bracket? no drilling into bumper or creating a mount?
THANKS FOR THIS INFORMATION!!!
i been looking at this and wondering if they would fit :)
howler
03-13-2003, 03:20 PM
lord banshee,
the lamps will fit, but the brackets that come with the cyberwhites are used to replace the fake vents in the TRD action bumper... there is drilling, two holes, so the lamps do work in place of the plastic vents... they DO NOT just bolt in to replace the stock fogs... birdman used the illustration to show where the mounting bolts would go... the cyberwhites are more of a driving light than a fog lamp that i've found out... let me know if i can be of more help...

you mentioned that you bought a switch for it... would you be able to just disconnect the stock fog lights and wire them to theese lights?
howler
03-14-2003, 04:04 AM
there was a couple of threads on this subject... i didn't read them closely, opting to run both sets if need be... i'm pretty sure it could be done considering the voltage, but run a search to be sure...

Yes, it is totally safe to do this. The new lights use the same H3, 55W bulbs as factory fogs, so you don't have any worries. But, make sure you are ONLY running the NEW fogs and the factory fogs are totally disconnected.

I bought these same foglights at autozone, they are pretty impressive. I hooked them up to stock so I can use the same switch. Install was very easy, here are some pix.

would these fogs fit where the stock fogs go on the stock front bumper? if not, do any of you have any suggestions on what aftermarket fogs would fit perfectly in the stock holes in the stock bumper at a very good price?

03-26-2003, 07:35 AM
i assume yes, you could mount the cyberwhites where the tiny round fogs are placed in the action pkg bumper... there's enough room...

hmm those autozone ones look nice, i hate that cheezy blue look when there off though.

Looks great! Nice way to get the fogs where they should be on the TRD bumper w/o spending $400 for the TRD lights. I would take off the stock fogs if you're running these though. I always thought they looked a little out of place in the innner openings. Good job.
