Some corrections.
1. Bad drivers miss shift.
2. Nitrous is availible, screw the never ending lies of a kit
3. Pistons, rings, crank, vavlves, sleves, springs retainers are all availible.

There is no difference in power ouput between the 00 through 02 GT-S. The minor changes in the 02's include the rev limiter being dropped from 8000+ to the 7800 RPM redline, and the shift pattern has been widened to help prevent mis-shifts, which have occurred in 00 and 01 models.

As far as trading your Prelude, I would try to sell it outright first, as most dealers probably won't offer much more than $17,000 on trade, whereby privately, you could probably get $20,000+.

Lastly, I have no complaints about the car, but here is a list of some of the most frequent complaints I have read on this site about the GT-S.

5. "The interior plastic scratches too easliy." This is usually caused by letting the seatbelt fly back into the doorpanel after removal. Solution: Hold the belt as it retracts.

4. "CD-player skips." Seemed more common in 00 models. I haven't read this one in a while. The CD-player in my 01 is fine. Most peeps here have aftermarket audio anyways.

3. "Noisy at high RPM." Your from the Honda camp, this should be nothing new. It's not a lower-reving V8.

2. "I mis-shifted and blew my motor." The 02 shifter has been revised to help prevent the famous 5-2 downshift (instead of 5-4), or 3-2 upshift (instead of 3-4) which causes this problem. Note, if you are moving over 60MPH, and want to shift into fourth, just make sure you really put it in fourth.

...and the number one WHINE.....

"THERE IS NO AFTERMARKET BEYOND INTAKE, EXHAUSTS, AND BODYKITS." If your not into heavy modification, this is not a problem, but many here want turbos, nitrous, and etc. If you lightly modify, (intake/exhaust) there are plenty of choices available.

Don't forget about suspension parts! If you look here (http://www.ecarshops.com/Merchant/merchant.mv?Screen=CTGY&Store_Code=TM&Category_Code=carspec-celica2k), you'll be amazed at how many parts there actually are for our car.

2000 and 2001 model GTS does mid to high 14s with Intake and exhaust...there are a few exception of GTS out there that does low to mid 14 sec with just intake and exhaust such as myself, billybrun (current record holder for N/A at 14.1 sec), and a few others. 2002 model is the one that they changed the rev limiter to. I still think its possible for people with the 2002 model to land on the 2nd cam, just have to practice, I did it myself when I test drove the wide shift gate and lower fuel cutoff of 7800. Just have to shift fast. hope that helps and good luck with your future decision.

The RSX is where these cars are heading: smoother, more refined, heavier. This could make the 2000-2002 Celicas more unique. Huge vvtli "lift" gains at high rpm (the GTS gains 25 hp at 6800rpm!) are perhaps becoming a thing of the past. The Celica has always had the hardest lift hit, and may be the last of the genre. Unique..maybe even a bit collectable someday. So the GTS is a different beast than the RSX. THe RSX is 2.0 200hp, the GTS a 1.8 180 hp and it does almost the exact same in acceleration. As a GTS owner, I personally take pride in this underdog approach. And with less weight each additional aftermarket hp will get you farther than w/ the RSX. As for the WRX, a buddy of mine just got one, and I have been on the prowl for him; he commutes a 30 mile long mountain road... sure he has more power but I do not fear him at all with my GTS.
