Okay, so I haven't done it yet, but I could dream alittle can't I? I'd Love to have a set of Gull Wing Doors put on the Batmobile. Plus a pair of customized seats. What do you think?

Bat;).

Hi I sent you a PM cause I wanted to ask you a few questions about your WW kit. Was your kit painted by WW? If so how much did you pay all together with shipping? Nice drawings by the way. If I had the money I would do a conversion like that to my Celi. Thanks Bat.

That's a cool idea, I was kinda thinking the same thing but i remember a post a long time ago that said it would cost like $3,000+ to do. Let's hope after paying that much the doors dont open and both face the same way yours do :P

Actually, I'm a full time teacher. I do have an Art Degree from SDSU, and I do alot of freelance Art and Design on the side. I wish I could do it full time, but we'll see what the future brings. I guess you can say I'm a starving Artist;).

The Lambo doors was the source of inspiration for me doing my drawing. I saw that pic of the BMW doors in a mag a while back, and I must say they look very nice on that car:).

does anyone have any idea of the maintenance required? the whole door up in the air thing doesnt seem to be too sturdy. like the entire door supported by a hinge? seems a lil scary to me...:(
loooks nice, but for how long?

Its not supported by just the hinge...you probably cant see it in the pic but there is also a hydraulic piston that i supporting it from the bottom of the door. Hamann actually offers a kit for the BMW's to do the conversion. I have a friend who is contemplating this mod on his 323 as we speak.

Way cool!
I like it but I gotta ask the question..
Are the doors motorized?
If so, I wonder how fast you could get them to open and close?
60 beats per min.

No really, I like the Idea.

You bring up a good point. How about the aircraft on aircraft carriers. Their wings are hinged to save space on the carrier deck. have you ever seen them folded? You wonder how they support an aircraft when in flight.

Those aren't Gull-Wing doors. You're trying for Lambo doors.

Blue Batmobile
01-15-2002, 03:27 PM
I thought lambo doors go straight up rather than flair out like the ones on the BMW.

That's true...

Gull wing doors hinge at the roofline - and door opens from the bottom UP. (Like the BMW Z9 Concept... http://www.bmwworld.com/models/z9.htm )

Lambo doors (however they'd swing on another car...) hinge at the mirror area and open from the back UP.

:)

Um, try way more then that if you want it done right and not have them leak and fall apart. From what I have read and heard, expect to pay 8-10K for a decent job that you can actually use and not worry about driving in the rain or having your doors fall off, not to mention, hope and pray you never get in a serious accident, cutting you car to put in doors like taht will affect the structural integrity of the car if it was never designe to have those doors.

Once again, the man delivers! Very nice Blue Batmobile! Has anyone actually considered laying down the cash for something like this?

hey with as much money as some people have spent on rims and carbon fiber hoods and body kits etc... I don't see why anyone hasn't tried this. Now this would truly be a one of a kind mod. For now, us poor people will just hope someone tries this. If I worked in a automotive design shop I'd be licking my chops to get a chance to work on something like this. awesome
