I plan on getting my engine plastics and the last plastic that I havent taken out yet is the ECU Cover
Is it safe to open and take off the ECU cover? It has DO NOT OPEN stamped right on to it

It will explode if you open it.
Be prepared .... its like the suitecase in pulp fiction. It glows in a mysterious way .. and you can take your eseys off of whats inside.
BTW i always thought that glow was probably a big mac and fries from Mcdonalds.

i've screwed around in mine a bunch of times (installing shift light, powermeter, getting the cover painted, etc...) and it's all good. oh, only thing is be careful putting the bolts back in because i've had them break twice now (apparently i had some really weak ones or something). they were only like 50 cents to replace though.

Yeah, Toyota just doesn`t want anyone tinkering with the components in that box if they don`t know what they are doing since it does contain the all important ECU, hence the warning.
