are these cars any fast?

Hey theres this kid in my class who has a 2000 Pontiac Grand Am SE, its 2 doors V6, he sez its the same engine as the GT,.... so what i wanna know is are they fast? i have a 5 spd GT with intake, he swears he will beat me from a stop and from a roll.. at first i didnt doubt i would win but when i ran agasint a grand prix GTP and it beat me.. ive feared those auto pontiacs since then... so whatda ya guys think.
Stock 2000 V6 Grand Am V6 Auto,
VS
2001 5 Spd GT with Intake.. as far as how my driving is id say that im pretty decent so theres no problem there.. not that the GT is that hard to drive ne ways...

I raced one along time ago and if you read "what did i get myself into" on this forum you will see that i have picked a race with another one...what is with those guys thinking there cars are SOOO fast anyways? Well, I raced a GT awhile back from a light. I didnt realize the guy wanted to race so he jumped the light and got like seriously 3 car lengths on me, I caught up and passed him by 80, it didnt seem like much to me, but im not sure i would have been able to even keep up without lift, so Im not sure about the GT. Youll have to find out and race that guy.

I think those cars have about 170-175hp. I think you should be able to take it, depending on your driving ability. I think the biggest factor is that your car is a stick and he's an auto. I don't think those pontiacs can break 16s but if your gt can get high 15s you should be able to take it.

Even a gts would have some trouble with a gtp, so its obvious that you would lose, however that has 240hp and a s/c stock. that's a far cry from the 170hp on the v6 non supercharged engine, Good luck with the race, hope you post a kill.

yeah there is a HUGE diffrence in a GTP and a grand am se, race him :)

ya gtp's are supercharged. You should be able to take him if you can drive decently well

Let me just straighten this out, you guys are begining to scare me, the GTP is NOT a grand am right? Isnt it the gand prix? cause Ive been talking all this **** about this kids grand am and if its supercharged and i just didnt realize it then im ****ed.

Nah you're cool the grand am is a slow hunk of ****, on the other hand the granprix gtp and gtx are quick

i guess i wasnt paying close enough attention... there are no supercharged grand am's (stock). its the grand prix gtp

Nice car, I think they are still using a really torquey 3800-Series engine with a Supercharger. Good stuff.

I don't have the number, but those things can fly. One of the few GM cars that I have my respect. Anyway, Grand Am and Grand Prix GTP are two VERY different cars.

A GT-S should have zero problems, but a GT might have to pull hard and the driver can make zero mistakes in order to be a contender. Otherwise, if you mess up a shift or something, you'll be looking at his taillights for the rest of the quater mile.

you shouldn't have a problem...the Grand Am Se's have 140hp...same as ur GT...but weigh a hella lot more and can't handle the line jump as well as the Celica GT...

I ran one with my friends stock Celica GT...by the time I hit 4th gear I was a good couple of cars ahead...its no contest...

Now...if you want a good race...run the Grand Am GT with ur Celica GT...if you can launch...its a good run...if you can't...then put ur tail between ur legs...those have 175hp...

I ran one of those also with my friends Celica...Got it by 1/2 car...I was pretty impressed with it...:)

Find a kid with a 3.2 CL-S Acura, those are just as fast as the celica with an intake and exhaust, dead equal when that 3.2 is stock and your is modded. My friend has one but he sucks on launchs and its an auto so it can't stay on its power band sometimes. Its fun to mess around with people, like on a 6 lane road we'll just wait and fine some ricer kid thats in the center, both pull up to him and start talking and reving and you know the speal. Then we just slowly pull off when hes gunning it hard and just pull away (side by side so we're exactly the same) and just keep giong, love to see those faces. Funny to see my TRD Celica pull up against this lux car and then they run same times... ahhack. Well thats a good challange just make sure its stock otherwise he'll get you by half a car or more.
