View Full Version : It may be getting time to leave

The winds of change are blowing in my life, and it might be getting time for me to depart. I have really enjoyed getting to know many of the members on this board in the last year, and the discussions have been fun. I hope my absence will not be permanant, but my presence here will be greatly decreased.

Two events are prompting this, and ironically, they started on the same night. While driving out to my girlfriend's apartment last week, I lost control of the Type R on some gravel on an entrance to the freeway. The car slid sideways on the narrow road, and hopped up a curb. The extent of the damage is not yet known, but it is pulling to the right, the steering wheel is crooked, and the front lip is slight scratched. It goes into the shop on Thursday. Thank goodness for the employee discount.

The purpose for the trip that resulted in damaging the R was to ask my girlfriend to marry me. She said yes, and we're getting married on Oahu at the end of March. That means I'll be moving soon (to the side of Houston she lives on), and I don't know when things will settle down. We each have so much stuff, we'd need a really big house. I also have a feeling that setting up internet access will be low on the priority list. I'd also rather spend time with her than posting messages to you guys. :D

I'll still be available to those with questions via email. It's been fun, and I hope to keep posting here on occasion, and maybe make one of those Houston meets when I get time. Take care, and I hope everyone's New Year is as good as mine is looking so far.

Congraulations on your engagement. Make sure you post pics of the wedding after it happens. Sorry about the Type R, I hope it's back to its old self soon. We'll miss you man.

It seems like a lot of people are leaving or getting on nc.org less. I myself won't be on as much since my roommate moved out of the dorm, and the computers are in the computer labs. Let's see the AntiRice, Z6joker9, CelicaChick01, Chui, Red2000GTS............and the list goes on for people who are gone or posting less. Is it me or do we have more members leaving then coming?

Glad to hear the good news. I understand that the majority of the couples who marry in Houston have very successful marriages :) while most Type Rs that are repaired are never the same again:( . Course I have no data to support either of those statements.:D :D

Congradulations for your marriage! I hope the best in regards to your relationship.

Sorry to hear about the R. Could that be an omen? Now that you're going to be a family man, what type of family car are you going to get? I doubt the baby will like the R.

Keep in touch!

Thanks. I'd like to make it out for a meet. Is anything going on next weekend? My fiance is out of the country, so I don't have much to do Saturday night. The R will probably still be down, but I can show up in my MR2.

Thanks Miguel. The only damage I've seen so far is some scratches on the front lip and a small paint chip on the inside of the front fender. Nothing that can't be fixed easily. The verdict is still out on the suspension. We'll see what the dealer says later this week.

I'm not real worried about the wedding. Just excited.

The car is kind of an afterthought at this point. I'm just anxious to figure out what's wrong with it. I can get a discount on parts and do the work myself. I might go that route. I might not. We'll see how much time I have. It should be back to its old tricks before too long. Pretty soon, it will be my daily driver, since I'll be 5 minutes from work.

I'd like to think I'm not that easy to replace. That topic could probably be debated for a week around here.

Family man? Hold on a second there, Nelson. That's not going to happen anytime soon. (So we're planning). If it does happen, I could do the baby thing in the R. The next car purchase will be the Jag the wife wants. After that, I'll look at my NSX. We've decided we can manage a kid or two in a 4-door sedan. Neither of us wants to drive an SUV or a minivan. My parents had two kids and never had anything that size. I figure we can do it too. The R would be fine to keep as a family car when I get the NSX. :D

I know I did. My bad. What color is your car? I saw a Celica GTS outside of the The Willows restaurant near Waikiki Jan 1 or 2. It was dark colored with a body kit and such. I thought it might be you or someone you knew.

Ahhh yes, that was our friend Tony's car - "ohmygts", he works there at the Willow's restruant. :) His car was in Import Showoff this past summer.

Mine is silver. ;) That's okie - I forgot about you coming down until reading this post, haha. Hope you had fun?

She doesn't want me to sell the car. She likes driving it. I am going to get rid of my MR2 when I move. It needs a lot of work at this point, and I won't need it living five minutes from work.

I will make it a point to visit when I can. Yes, we have had our moments, but I don't think our disagreements have ever been that major. We've learned a lot from each other.

Yes, it is only a car, and I'm not that concerned about it at this point. Too many other good things going on. Good luck with the Eclipse. I know you'll do great things with it. See you around.

Just a quick note to say sorry about your car..I know how it must feel to have something happen to one of your babies. Congratulations on your upcoming marriage. Best of luck in the future for you. I, for one, am going to miss all of your insightful comments and opinions that you've shared for the two or so years you've been on here and other msg boards. In a few years there will be mini-yaks running around to set us straight on the facts. :-) Again, best wishes on your new adventure.

I know I also havent agreed with you on a lot of topics but that does not mean I did not learn a lot from you. At least I was getting the information form a source who knew his information. Best of luck with the wedding planning and the future with your wife. Also you know what your doing so the whole car thing will work out.
Peace

Thanks for the kind words. As a teacher, the spread of misinformation bugs me quite a bit. Especially since the program I work in is so short on documentation. This makes it easy for false stuff to become seen as fact. I've tried to keep that from happening around here when I can. As for the mini-yaks, that isn't planned for a little while in the future. And no, I won't be driving a family car.

I've enjoyed being here. I will be stopping by from time to time when I can. Right now, for example, she's in Japan on a business trip. :sad I would like to think that I have been fairly consistent and knowledgeable around here.

As for the family car, I'm sure the Type R will do fine when the time comes. I'm sure I'll find some sort of cover for the seat before putting a kid and a car seat in. :silly
