I really need new tires to replace my stock Yokohama Advan A520s on my 2001 Celica GT-S. I wore mine out in 11k miles and my rears which used to be my fronts have no center tread and on some spots have this wavy gray line down the middle. So I am looking for tires that have excellent dry weather grip. I live in Southern California so Snow and rain aren't really a problem. The tires I'm currently looking at are:
Dunlop SP Sport 9000s for $125 a peice off tirerack.com
Bridgestone Potenza S-03 Pole Positions for $144 a peice off of tirerack.com
Michelin Pilot Sports for $166 a peice off of tirerack.com
The Dunlops seem nice, but they seem to have only ok dry grip, but really good wet grip. i am looking for a more dry grip tire. What other tires should i e looking at and what are the pros and cons of each of these tires (other than the price). The SO-3's look good, and a relativley new tire, but the Dunlops are $19 cheaper per tire. Also can anyone reccomend a place that carries these tires so I can compare prices?
thanks

Center wear is due to over-inflation... check your door sill for proper pressures...
BTW... check out the Toyo T1-S it is a better bang-vs-buck compared to you above choices ($127)

thanks for the response. About the cetner line tread wear, Toyota said my pressures were fine, because everytime I went to get an oil cahnge with them they marked on the little card they gave me that my tires were all at 32psi.
ABout those Toyos how do they compare in dry grip to the other 3 tires I posted above? Also how do they compare in treadware?

Heavy wear down the center normally would indicate overinflation, but I think there's something peculiar about the GT-S Yoko...way too many people have the same problem for it to be overinflation. I had it, and I can guarantee that my tires stayed at or below recommended psi.

At 18k miles I replaced the stock Yokos with The Toyo T1-S. Now at 36K miles the Toyos show little wear. They grip MUCH, MUCH better in the dry than the stock Yokos and I seriously doubt if there is a better WET traction tire. These things are amazing in the wet. Hope that helps

thanks you, that did help, now does anyone know how they compare to the dunlop sp 9000s? The so-3s seem a little too expensive for me right now. Thanks for the info.

I have the Dunlop SP Sport 9000 and I luv them. The dry grip is very good and wet grip is amazing. The are better than stock by a long shot and seem quiter also. If I didnt get those I would have got the T1-S Proxies. They are onslae at tirerack because the regualr price is over 150 a tire. You cant go wrong with any of the tires you are looking at I would also look at the Pirelli PZERO Rossa but I know they will wear out faster than the Dunlop or the Proxies. Hope this helps.

I have noticed the same problem with my stock Yokos They are still good on the sides but the center is show's a lot of wear and I check my tire pressure regularly. I have 27K on my car and I think I may have to change my tires soon. Dayam about the same time as my 30k service. Any other tires that anyone can recommend for about the same price as the Yokos? I too live in Cali and want the same thing but want just as good grip when it does rain.
