red A/C controls

I put a red neon behind my ac controls and it comes out orange, or light red, nothing like the cig lighter or my gauges. I know a couple people suggested putting either the red condoms on the stock bulbs but i don't see how that would make it any darker. And the blue won't be blue. Another person suggested painting behind or in front of the the symbols that you wanted red and having white bulbs. I wanted to know how that looked. If you paint behind wouldn't it look pinkish during the day. And i'm sure it's damn near impossible to paint the outside with anysort of accuracy. If anyone did theres and are satisfied please tell me what you did and how you did it. THanks

use the condoms...they work really well...and its very bright still...and its not pink..its red red...its grrrreat!

I tried painting the icons but only with watercolor. I could see the brush marks and it didn't look very good. I didn't want to use regular paint at first in case the remover damaged the clear spots. but that's all i've done if it helps
