Check this out? As we all know it won't do crap, and even if it did, wouldn't it loose it's magnetication (think i just made that word up) since it's screwed into metal?

AFAIK, our drain plugs are already magnetic. and yes it actually works, i've even heard of people putting larger magnets on their oil pan to catch small metal pieces.

i didn't know that....is the purpose of it to remove the metal particles when you change the oil? if so, i'ld imagine it would magnetize the oil pan, and then loose it's effect.

reminds of the magnetic cover you put around your oil filter. i should try both combo.

the purpose is to keep those small pieces of metal in you're oil pan and not the motor. and i cant speak on it losing its effectivness over time.

In order for the pan to be magnitised by the magnet, the pan needs to be made of a material with dipole moments that can be changed to be aligned to those in the magnet. Alloys won't magnetise because they are in an amorphous or lattice matrix with a combination of metals.

so the pan will not cause the magnet to stop working?

interesting...but if our plug is already magnetized, then it won't make a difference...but in all the times i've changed my oil, i've never seen metal particles on the drain plug....
