Raced a Probe GT tonight

Well it's around 10pm tonight and I was heading home from school. Heading down the road and a Probe GT and I guess it was a mid 90's camaro with cheesy dual exhaust went by and I sped up after them. We kinda played on this 2 lane road and none of them could hang with me up on top end (around 80 or so). Well as we got further down the road I had to turn and the guy in the Probe followed me. We played a bit more and finally I dropped to 2nd at about 40mph and blew by him and he came after me. We got stopped at a light and I put the window down and we talked waiting for it to turn. He was pretty cool, said he could definaly hear the vvtl-i kick in (he actually knew quite a bit about the celica) and he said he has wanted to race one for awhile. When the light went green I launched at about 2500rpm and he spun his tires a bit and I jumped out about a 1/4 car length ahead. I shift to 2nd and the revs drop to 5500 and he is still about a 1/4 back. I took it up to the top of 3rd and by then it looked to be about his front end was at my back tire and I was pulling on him harder when I let off. We talked a bit more at the next light and then went our separate ways. The guy was pretty cool, not some jerkoff like some people are after racing. That GT was quick, I dont know if he had any mods. All I have is a RMM short ram intake (sucks).

Nice kill. I have a video of a probe vs celica GTS, the celica gets a half car length lead at the beggining, but then the probe pulls and wins at the end, i think the driver missed a gear or something. What do probe GT's have under the hood, I thought it was a turbo 4 but I saw a something about a V6 probe not too long ago....anybody know what the performance stats on those htings are?

The last gen had 2.5l V6, 165HP and 165lb-ft torque, 2800lbs or so I think, maybe a little more. The first gen had the turbo 4. The fact that you landed at 5500 on the 1-2 shift is at least a car length or two right there.

There was a big stink a while ago with the probetalk.com board. Like everyone else (Civics, RSX, etc), they said their probes could easily smoke a GT-S. It was obvious because they have a V6 and mad, mad torque yo! A whopping 165ft-lbs of torque, yo! But they aren't too slow, mid-high 15's stock if they are driven well. With the way all the probe owners seemed, you were lucky to find a decent one.

thats wierd that a Probe would come from behind and pull the Celica.. the Celica should walk away top end from a Probe.. btw..good kill :)

But yeah...he musta had some mods cuz otherwise the Celica shoulda pulled on him a lot harder...!!!! At least u found a guy that wasn't a horses...ya know...;)

Yup he was pretty cool, I was expecting him to be some prick after hearing about all those other probe guys. Anyways I guess maybe if I was better at dragging I would have beat him by more but oh well.
