I am thinking about these in the turbo model of course, but I first wanted to know if anyone had one or has one and knows a lot about them. I want to know if there is anything I need to look out for on these. Do they have any notorious mechanical problems, etc? If anyone can help then thanks!!!!:)

Try to get a 93+ model since they come with a better suspension and an LSD stock. Aside from that I hear you can run 30 psi with forged pistons and rods alone. Take that with a grain of salt though because I'm not 100% certain about that one.

take that with a big grain of salt b/c thats never going to happen on a stock turbo. Most drag import cars dont hit 30 psi. **** i never hit 30 psi. i highly doubt that.

Tagurit: I was thinkin' the same thing, 30lbs? It sounded good though Maelfyn.

Maelfyn: Yeah the '93+ model sound better w/ the LSD and better susoension, I think they also had an upgraded stereo system, something like 8 speakers or something?

Sorry to correct you, but the 1993-1995 MR2 Turbos did not come with an LSD stock; it was an option beginning in the '93 model year. The main differences in the '91-'92 and the '93-'95 models are the changes to the car's suspension. In a nutshell, the later models sit about an inch lower and the car tends to understeer more (they were trying to reduce snap oversteer).

Also, the stock engine is very strong, but don't expect 30psi without any mods.

Actually I was sort of hoping someone would correct me. :)

Be VARY careful when you buy one of these. The only common year for turbos were '91s. You can sometimes find '93s, but by '94-'95, they were so expensive that only a handful were sold. I'm talking a number in the low 100's each year. So basically you will be looking at 11 year old cars, with lots of miles (especially for the turbo), and potentially lots of problems. These cars could have corrosion problems depending on what part of the country you are from, and in general, cars that old will be worn out. So you could be looking at alot of repair costs. And nothing is cheap for that car. Example: most people like to do '94+ taillight conversions to their cars. That runs you about $500 for that job. The main weakness is the trans, the synchros have a habit of going bad. I test drove a car with 80k miles on it that had some bad synchros. Also, a large number of them were red. The red paint is crap, and will have oxidized badly over the years and will probably look like crap. I'm not trying to scare you off or anything, but I have a good friend who just HAD to have an MR2 Turbo and his car is pretty well beat up.

With bolt-ons they can push 300RWHP. Very fun cars to drive, but I dont know about what kind of problems they can have.

MR2Dave from a Supra board gave me the link board.mr2faq.com as a good resource for info on MR2's.

Later,
-Brian.
