She complains that it looks too much like a mini van. or a hatchback, or a station wagon.. I say, true, it is a "technically" a 4 door hatchback, ie, station wagon. But Its got a celica drive train and a corolla frame. and its "the new look" yak yak yak...

Why do i want her to get the matrix? i dono, i figure its better than a Protoge'...

Any tips?

ps, some women really DO care what they drive! more than men. I mean, she wants her next new car to look good, and thats about it.

whatever. l8r

A Protege MP3 will drive circles around it.

Personally in that size/price range I would look long and hard a the new Mini.

I wouldn't try and convince her to buy anything. Just take her around to see what's available and buy her the one she wants. That's the best way to go. My soon-to-be wife really wants a Jag. We're going to go looking at them when we get back from our honeymoon. I never thought I'd own a Jag, but it's what she wants. If I can drive the car I want, why should I try to "convince" her to buy anything other than exactly what she wants.

the protege handles that well?

btw, as for the original question i'd wait until it's in dealers, and then take her to see it. or the pontiac vibe...same thing. looks different.

they'll be quick in a straight line (all the reviews i've read say they handle phenomenally well for wagons (it has same front end suspension as the GTS, but the rear's torsion beam w/trailing arms, and anti-roll bars in both plus same brakes) but i like to make judgements on things like that myself after a test drive, harder to get across than straight line speed in a mag)...C&D got the same time out of it that they got out of their GTS...15.7 @ 91...and that was in the heavier Pontiac Vibe. launch that sucker in cold weather with the better tire option, and i'd put money down you could hit low 15s at least.

haha, it's funny you bring this up. I have considered suggesting the Matrix to my gf too. Tell her the AWD one is good for winter, Toyota reliability, looks sexy, it's a hot car. What else does she want? lol

Why not just tell your GF to buy a Celica if she wants something that looks good  Honestly, in this price range, nothing else looks as good... And most likely she doesn't care about power right? What about the new Civic SIR that is coming out just a month after the Matrix? They aren't too bad, probably cheaper then Matrix too... But in terms of looks, I don't think anything beats the Celica... But if u got the cash, get an S2000

I dunno. Call me crazy but I think the Matrix looks hot.

Well, from the pix, the matrix dont look too bad... But once again, it just depends on the person... Also has a lot of nice features too, and from what I read I think u are able to get stock DVD and GPS systems with it, that would be pretty nice... But I would have to see the car in person to decide, just a little under 2 weeks till Matrix comes out(for those who don't know, its suppose to be at the dealerships the first week of feb, or so I hear)

BTW Maelfyn, What mods do you have in your car? I never seen you post your mods before.

This post is bringing smiles to my face because of all the hot cars under 20K. Being on a budget doesn't mean not being able to buy a sporty ride. Thank you Car Gods for giving us the following cars for under 20K the Honda Civic Si, Focus SVT, Hyundai Tiburon, Toyota Matrix, Base RSX, Celica GT, Nissan Sentra SE-R Spec V, Mazda MP3, Dodge Neon R/T, and probably 1 or 2 more that I'm forgetting. I know that even if I can't go all out and get that GTS that I want there is a wealth of lower-priced options.

I would consider any of those cars "sporty". Maybe "sport-like." Sorry, but I wouldn't buy any of them. I'd go for something used with more performance for less than $20k.
