Ok I havent installed this, or bought any of it, but this is what im thinking about doing for my sound system in my 2000 gt...
1. Pioneer Head Unit, phsomthing 8400
2. 4 6 1/2 polk audio speakers
3. 2 amps...1000watt and 500watt (1000 for the subs, 500 for the 6 1/2's)
4. 2 rockford fosgate 12's in box
Eventually...
Ps2 in the glove box...
lemme know what you think about this setup, good or bad...i'd like to make sure its something good before i put the 1000+ into it....thanks...

head unit is fine. speakers need to know more really. which polks? polk momo components? i'd at least do those up front and if you want rears then whatever their best coaxs are. as for the amps, you don't say a name brand so i'd say just make sure they're not garbage. i'm wondering if they are based on the large power ratings. just get a good clean amp. usually polks don't take much power so you're giving them more then enough (if its a reliable brand that you can trust those numbers) that and i don't know if you're talking rms watts or max watts. i have 12s and honestly its too boomy for me. i'm switching them out for a 10w7 soon. two 12s in a celica isn't very clean to me.

I used two 10s to save on space so I could still use some of my hatch area and still keep the spare useable. I'm sure with the proper box design you can get rid of the boomy-ness. And I agree about the amps. Make sure to go with a reputable brand that has a solid RMS power rating. Peak power output means nothing and is marketing hype. And if you aren't going for SPL, just a good sounding system, you don't need to go overboard on the wattage.

Size does not matter... If it is too boomy, you have to high of a QTC if sealed, or tuned to high if ported. Design the enclosure properly and it will not be boomy, no matter what size driver you are using.
My 15" is in a sealed enclosure with a QTC of approx. .7 and it sounds great... it's all in the install!

Yeah, 2 12's will definatly be loud. And like BAGGED2000CELICA was saying, you can build a less efficient box that will result in something not as boomy. However, I don't recommend this. I recommend making the box the recommended size, but just keeping the volume to them low. That way you can have it boomy if you need it to be.
For the amps, as everyone else said, you need to be sure it's a brnd name amp, and watch the wattage rating. Some companies will right "1000-watts Max" on the front, but that's far from the truth. Sure, the amp will get 1000-watts when lightning strikes, your impendance drops low enough, and possibly for only a split second. Try and find the RMS ratings on the amps. That will tell you what you will ACTUALLY be getting.
If you could, let us all know what kind of speakers (Polk somethings), kind of Rockfords (Hx2's?), and type and model of amps. That way we can help you decide if the system is worth it, in our opinions of course.
