So anyone have any idea of traffic laws in Georgia? I have a date in 2 wks for a 55 in a 35 ticket. I know people out of state say if you go they'll drop your points but I've never heard of that in Georgia... my dad used to sell insurance and had some people tell him that they'd short change the ticket by a small amount and mailed it in and it wouldn't post on their record, anyone have any words of wisdom?

This is what I did a couple of months ago for a 55 in a 35. Go to court for the ticket and plead no contest. You will still have to pay, but you won't get points on your license. You can only do this ONCE every FIVE years though. They will explain all your options to you in court and answer any questions. The first time you go the cop that wrote you the ticket won't be there; just the judge, other people w/ tickets and lawyers.
If you plead not guilty they will set up a date for you to appear in court, where the officer will be present.
If you plead guilty you will have to pay the fine and get points on your license. You might be able to talk the judge into not giving you points or reducing the fine, but it most likely won't work.
I don't belive that paying the wrong amount for your ticket will work, but I could be wrong.
While I'm at it. If you ever get caught w/o proof of insurance. Plead guilty, but w/ an excuse and be sure to bring proof of insurance with you. The judge will let you off. Do not plead not guilty. The ticket is for "no proof of insurance." Not for "no insurance."
My dads been a cop for 20 something years.

I had a 64 in a 45 a couple years ago. I plead no contest too and didn't get any points on my liscense. I hadn't heard about the no proof of insurance thing before. Thanks for the info Barry! Good luck with the ticket Scott!

I have also heard that you can sometimes bargain no points off your license if you agree to pay in full that day. But Ive never gotten one. so anyway good luck.

Last year I had a 51 in a 35, It was down hill I explained to the prosecuter the situation and he dropped the ticket from 51 to 49, In the state of Georgia anything under 15 over is no points and your insurance does not get a record for it, I still paid in full but I have a clean record and my insurance did not go up, Good luck with it,
Mark

Arghh... sorry I haven't thanked everyone for responses yet. My computer fritzed out and I've been out of town so I haven't been able to buy a new chip for it. I just called the Court house to find out how much the fine is.... .... $300 ... I had a 20 over like 4 and a half years ago and it was 135... I swear Doraville is a speed trap hellhole. The points on the license don't really matter, its the insurance, the lady said that yea you can plead no contest and not get points but it still goes on your record. So I'm not sure if that will still kill my insurance. Man... 300 bucks.
