Well, I am an eighteen year old and for the past 8 months have been bustin my chops to purchase a car. I have approxiamately 6g's saved and need your guys help. I am debating to go with either a fourth gen Supra or a new celica GT-S. I can afford which ever, insurance wise and plan on spending approxiamately 1,200 dollars in mods a month when I get it. I am only worried about the condition I find the used Supra in. Can you guys give me advise and pros and cons of either purchase. BTW please dont flame.Thanx!

if you are spending that much per month on mods, then the supra is definitely a way better choice.

Thanx for all of your comments guys. You truly helped me. But CLMantis... why only a TT. I would have thought that a twin turbo would 've been abused more. I spoke with a guy at TOYOMOTO here in Miami and told me to buy a non turbo? What are the differences engine wise( internally). Again Thanx!!!!

The supra most likely won't have a warranty and the celica will.
Supra has a bigger aftermarket. The non turbo is slow. It's very very hard to find a stock supra. Get the celica if you're going for all show and don't care about going fast. Get the supra if you want show and go.

Well, see... thats the tricky part. You're going to need to find a good TT that was well kept. The reason I say only TT is because a friend down the street has a non turbo supra... and 1 word bro.. SLOW!!! Trust me, it looks sweet but it dont run fast worth a damn. Well at least in my opinion.
just my $.o2

The Supra NA isn't slow by any means. In comparison to the Turbo model, perhaps. It can definitely run with Celicas.
It sounds like your parents are gonna finance and insure the car for you. Otherwise insurance wouldn't be too "affordable". Don't worry about the car being beat up on. To tell you the truth, if the car was well-maintained, you shouldn't have many problems. However, this is the difficult part - finding a Supra that has been well-maintained and unabused.
I have mine up for sale, but I'm having second thoughts on selling it.

are you prepared to shoulder the insurance expense on that Supra ?

The thing with the insurance is... my parents are divorced and I don't live with my father. The car is going to be a gift from him thus the financing loan will be under his name. I don't live with him thus no reason for me to be on the insurance all I would have to worry about is personal injury. I am thinkin about a naturally aspirated Supra. I could afford buying an aftermarket turbo and having the guys at Toyomoto down here install it for me. I have confidence in them, they are pretty well known. My main concern is with the tranny as I always can swap out the 2jz-ge for a 2jz-gte. I believe the N/A came only with a 5 speed instead of the 6? That is my most dire concern, because it always seem like the first thing to go. Looks like I will be getting the Supra. But if I had more money to throw around I would buy a celica and have toyomoto do a custom job! But I got an estimate that it would be like an outrageous amount of money cause it would be their first, and would push 15 pounds(definately not stock internals). They are not cheap but you get what you pay for. They did the first turbo IS300 and the guy spent 30,000 grand for it. and they are doing one now and have swaped out the tranny for a 6speed supra tranny. Mind you these people are rich and the IS only has 15 miles on it, coming from the dealer to their shop.
