Hopefully someone can help me out. The other day I did the infamous 4-2 shift. I had the motor diagnosed and there is no compression in the #2 cylinder and the clutch is burnt. The dealer refused to cover it under warranty. I live in CT and decided to call around to all of the local dealerships and no one wants to fix the car under warranty. The dealer that I brought the car to saw all of the gauges, S-AFC, and intake and saw them as a threat. They said the engine code stated that the car was running too lean when the engine damage occured and I said "obviously, because it isn't suppose to rev to 9000 RPM's". They basically told me to go away and go to a performance shop that knows somwthing about the gizmos in your car(which all of them are pretty much just for show as of now and none of them are really functioning). My questions are, what should I do now? Does Toyota have any official stance on miss shifted Celica's? Is there someone at Toyota America that I can call that deals with these sorts of things? Is there anyone out there that has had a blown engine fixed under warranty in CT? Am I the only one on this board having trouble getting this fixed? Thanks for any info anyone might be able to give me!

take your mods off and put the stock parts back, and then ask around dealers. you might have to even look up dealerships in another state.

4-2 mis-shift means you were looking for fourth gear and landed in second?

I had the same problem, only this happened on my gs-t not my celi.. (so warranty coverage was not an option) Luckily all that happened was a broken belt, and I think a f*cked up clutch. Well, all that seems to be wrong is the clutch because the car works and all... and it runs, but the gears are kinda hard to get into.. and they grind at times. Anyway, I'm not even sure if I miss shifted (4-2) at all since it might have been that belt that gave out (which was already squeaking).

Where u racing when this happened? I was. Or at least, how fast where u going or where u reaching rev-limiter when shifting?

MIWI, would that be Colonial Toyota giving you trouble? Just curious, I bought mine from A-1 and wonder if they would cover this if I ever needed it.

Find out what region your dealer is under, and call the 800 toyota complaint number, find out the number for that regional office. Call and talk to the regional manager, she/he should be able to help you further. Also the 800 complaint line can help you set up a 3rd party review and hopefully authorize to get your car fix under warranty. The dealer doesn't have the say so of weather they can fix your car under warranty, the district rep from Toyota is the ones who makes the decision, that's why you should call the regional office and talk to that district rep's boss. Don't blame your dealer on warranty work, they'd love to fix it for you if Toyota is willing to pay for it.

No I wasn't racing when it happened. I was going up a hill trying to pass someone on the highway and I went to grab 4th gear and pulled it into second, I was probably going about 75 or so.

Gaps, yes it is me. I bought my car from A-1 and they were the ones that were giving me trouble.

Thanks to everyone that posted. I will be calling Toyota on Monday or Tuesday to see if I can get this straightened out. Does anyone have any ideas on what type of stance I should take when I call Toyota? 1. pleasant 2. angry, pissed, and never buying a Toyota again, or 3. A combo of both

Don't be angry, be professional, those toyota reps on the phone are pretty nice, just tell them your situation and they will try to help you out. Just ask for the district rep's office number in the end and talk to his/her boss about it too. Again, warranty decline has nothing to do with the dealer and the reps on the phone, the district tech rep is the one who makes the decision. Good luck.

Ok, this sh** just happened to me a couple of weeks ago and I got it covered under warranty. I had mods on my car too. As long as the mods didn't cause the problem you are O. K. They put a new engine and a new tranny in my car so, in other words I fu**** up alot of things. Call toyota USA and be nice to them. Tell them your problem go to http://www.sema.org/WARRANTY/.
In here you will fine information about warranty denial in the event when aftermarket parts are used. It helped me out a lot having this information. I used this against toyota and they have no problems after that. If you have any more questions just ask.

Take your parts off(and I mean EVERYTHING) and take it to another dealer you haven't talked to yet. tell them what happened and play dumb. works for a friend of mine who happened to blow his engine up not once but TWICE! well threw a rod anyway.... take everything off and they will have no reason to suspect anything
