I've been thinking lately.. and I've gotten screwed a few times because I went through a "middle man" when buying things just to save a few bucks.. now I'm wondering how many of you have been screwed in one way or another buy participating in a group buy or just buying something through another person.

hmm, I have not gotten screwed. You have to be careful who you deal with. I would prefer to deal with someone who is well known, and can be trusted. That way if you do get screwed, it will most likely be easier to get your $$ back or even the product.

I've never gotten screwed through a GP but I did screwed out of $210 buying a TRD rear valence. I'm never buying from a member who doesn't have a reputation established again.

this is a cool thread. i got screwed by monkeyboy. he was supposedly someone members could trust. i got my money back, but when paypal locked his account for the thirteenthbillion time they took money i didnt have. so i had a negative balance and paypal locked my account...i havent touched it since. that shet better not show up on a credit report or i will be extremely pissed...that's the risk you take buying online tho

i have never gotten screwd cuz i'v always gone through people that i trust (even though i don't know them).....I will always go w/ people that have been here for some time and seem genuinely nice/helpful

to me
noobs= no trust at all
vet= some trust
well known vet= the most trust

not at all - i'm not too keen on online shopping for reasons above. the one time i went through a group buy was headed by my friend, boyracer, who lives in the same town. i would only join a GB if it was headed by a trust worthy member...research, research, research!

i dunno man, i mean you had a moderator, GTSLAID, sellin all kinda stuff, everybody would trust him right? well that fujitsubo exhaust never got delivered (well maybe it did by now). but that was a huge purchase... and the buyer was sht outta luck after paying, and ajmed went mia. i dont know the whole story and i still think ajmed is a stand up guy, he contributed so much to the site. id still prolly buy something he offered to sell me (that wasnt of too much value :)), but others might think twice because of that one screw up.

i just think its probably better to just stay out of group buys completely, especially if its not in your state.. I dont want to wait a few weeks or months to save a few bucks and risk getting ripped off.

I would rather just pay a few bux more and have the peace of mind. I buy alot of things from Edrick (formerly WC Toyota) and even tho his prices might be higher than a group buy price, at least I know I will get my item, please he takes credit card so I can just charge it (cc protection). Paypal is really bad at getting funds back.. i personally think paypal is an internet theif's favorite service.
