I started a new thread because I felt that over the course of my response I changed the subject from his question to my thoughts on ricers. Enjoy.

Dear Club members,

Why is it that every designated site to any Import Vehicle seems to one flat out hate every other import Machine out in the free world? Every other car is slow except the vehicle the site is truly dedicated too. I

Most Celi people on these boards, except a few that I know personaly are cool guys. They respect cars that car rival the celi but dislike the wana-bes that just like the attention. cars that are slower but wana race a celi and dis it cause it can beat them are losers IMHO. People who beat us and then brag about it and dis us are losers IMHO. Its for the love and sport of it. Racing is a sport not a bragging right or something you do to be in the spot light. Just my .o2 and familys 15 years of professional racing exsperence. Also I put lights on mine, I like them, adds that custom effect other than the loud exhaust and cool kit.. Anyways just my opions.

you know you make a great point and I truly believe that if someone does osmething to their car to please themselves than that is there natural right however people who follow the norm just so they can say they have this are truly out of the spirit of import tuning personally the first things I got on my car were the blitz sus lm intake and the trm exhaust after that I have so far only changed two more things the tailights fot changed to apc chrome ones and before you flame me I did it purelly out of apreciation for how they look on my Liquid Silver gts I personally think that is nice now some things it just should not be done too like a plain white car for example it just looks off. Most of the tuners I have seen dont quite realize it they are more like a heard wondering off to the race shop to get the next add on why because that is what is "cool" well no they really need to be corrected that is what is overused yes and out of fit (style, context, whatever else you want to call it), basically just plain useless just my .02 though..... and the other mod was piaa wipers because the stock ones werent cutting it anyways thanks for the time

just dont call adding lights "tuning". adding perf. parts is tuning.
90% of people here do real tuning, its those 10% than need smacked down :)

i don't understand why people hate on other people in general. Sometimes its out of jealousy, that they can't have what other people have. But honestly speaking i don't think imports are only meant for speed. Imports are a whole community. With the show stoppers, and with the full out race setup imports we are all the same. Some may not want the speed, but the looks because that's what they like. Some put preference over the other. With me personally I'm going for the looks, I can't afford another speeding ticket and with engine mod's all you are looking for really is speed. Obviously there are those out there that don't know what they are doing and doing it because they think its cool. but i know that everyone has been at that point one time in life. It comes with experience and maturity to not follow and do something just to be cool. But we are all following someone. There are beginners and there are professionals in the import scene, we are all at different points in modding our cars, we just can't put someone else down for learning, even if that means from learning from there mistakes. I also want to say that I hate the term "rice" or "ricer" as well. It doesn't seem fair to term any car not to your liking as rice. Because it does seem to discriminate against the asian society, as well as the spanish, and others. I feel another team should be used. Maybe that it just doesn't agree with your liking.

- Showing genuine care in your car, i.e. always clean and polished, tire shine, waxed etc, is not problem. Again putting ground effects on because you get some enjoyment from them is also a good thing. The attitude of doing it to impress others and/or to misrepresent themselves and their car is that attitude. If you want you car to look nice, that's great, but don't try to make it look like a performance car, i.e. spoilers, front air dams etc, when you can't even run a 14 on the 1/4.

I can't afford another speeding ticket and with engine mod's all you are looking for really is speed. - I disagree slightly here. I was never into doing something I didn't get intrinsic value from just to impress others. I might be in the minority, but I never smoked cigarettes or pot to look cool, never wore tommy shirts, or whatever was popular, just the ones that I liked etc...

- I really disagree with this. First, I've already set forth the criteria for rice. It is not simply a car that I don't like. Also, if the majority of the cars I call rice, or people I call ricers are asian, then it's because the fad is perhaps more profound within the asian community, but it has nothing to do with race. I call one of my best friends a ricer all the time, and I mean it. He is white and drives a V6 mustang and wants to put a Saleen bodykit on it. Yes he likes the way saleens look, but his is not a saleen. I love the way 93 cobras look from the rims, to the body package. However, I wouldn't make my 93 LX into a cobra lookalike even though it is faster. It isn't a 93 cobra and I would know it.
