Question about Tail lights

when you take out the screws off the tail lights the screws are connected to the tail lights or connected to the car itself??

Well, you take the nuts off of the lights. The bolts are connected to the lights.

so i can replace the tailight and get a new one?? cause my friend snapped one of the bolts that connect to the nuts so now i only have 3....
