sunuva****ingbitch.. Started up my car tonight to warm it up.. and well, I had a TINY crack (chip) on my windshield from what I'm guessing was a rock at one point. I guess the windshield was cold (especially because it was covered with snow) and it didn't agree with the warmth inside the car.. and now I have a MASSIVE crack the entire length of the windshield :( ****, I'm screwed.. how much is this gunna cost? Anyone know? I was guessing around 500 or 600 bucks. Should I get this done at the Toyota dealer? What about those guys who come to your house and install new windshields--Can they be trusted to do good work? I'm so ****ing annoyed. I'm not even sure if the windshield isn't going to collapse in on me while I'm driving now.. I gotta get this fixed ASAP..

The windshield wont cave in on you. Its two seperate pieces of glass with thick lamination in between them. Im guessing it would cost around 300. I would take it to a glass place not toyota, beside toyota would just get them to do it anyway. They usually dont do glass work. Here where I live, the dealerships call us to come do their work(I work at a automotive glass shop). Hope it helps.

Isthere any impact mark of the object seen anywhere where the crack is? If there is none and if you are under warrenty you maybe able to get it replaced for free. When I had my Civic I had a stress crack and the dealer was able to replace it since my car was under warrenty still.

Like LBCelica2KI said - if there is no other visible damage then it should be warranty. If there is other damage (small chip to start it) then try calling the insurance company.

Best case you find out that glass repair is part of the policy, worst case you find out you owe the deductible. Either way it will likely be cheaper than paying out of pocket.

I'd take it to Toyota just because, even though there is basically no dealership out there that does their own glass work, they will have a glass shop do it.

well, Toyota was charging me $550 to replace mine. My insurance would help much cuz i have a $500 deductible. I was quoted $240 from one of those places that go to your work or house. That's for the windshield and the work. I haven't done it yet though.

I got a quote for a Honda Prelude and it came out to be like $210. It is more if you want that shade thing that goes along the top 3" of the windshield. Honda didn't come with that from the factory, so I didn't do it.

It's not $500-600.. more like $210. Don't take it to the stealer (dealer) because they just take it to a glass shop too and just keep whatever money on top as a "service fee".

Later.

If you have a 2000 celica, you will have to buy a winshield and that black trim on top of the windshield. Thats what the guy told me when i changed mine. He said on 2000 models u cannot reuse that trim but on 2001 up u can, that piece was like another 100 bux.

It would have cost me about $280 to have mine done. However my insurance and most good insurance companies will cover the front windshield with no deductable. I had one of the auto-glass companies come out to my parking lot at work and the window you get cannot be told apart from the window your car came with.

It's always a good idea to get any small chips taken care of by a window repair place before they turn into a big crack. It's usually $50 and in nearly every case the insurance company will cover this fully with no deductable. When my windshield went I had about three minutes from when the rock hit near the bottom of the windshield until the crack reached the top.

I have no idea what the talk is about the "black trim". You just buy a windshield no matter what year or type of car you have.

Its called a molding. And sometimes you can reuse them and sometime you cant. It depends whether or not it came out good or bad. The 2000 and up are all the same so the guy was just bull****ing with you!

Well your star ran (start as a star shape small chip) if it did not they can fill this star and save you tons of money. Now either go with TRD original windshield which is gonna cost ya major bucks or go with an aftermarket windshield. I had same problem and it cost me like $400 for a new aftermarket windshield. You gotta inspect your windshield after installation, some of the aftermarket windshield sucks.

Well, I called around to three different Toyota dealerships to see what they would say. First dealership I called said $650.00 plus tax.. and I asked them if they send it to a auto glass place and they said yes.. and I said who.. and they said "we use a bunch of different ones" (AKA we won't tell you because we don't want you to deal with them direct so we can overcharge you for it). Screw that.. second dealer I called said they used a place called "Monko Glass".. dunno if that is spelled right. And then they gave me the # to call them. The third dealer said they also use Monko Glass and gave me the same place to call. So, I figured since two dealers in totally different locations use the same.. they must be somewhat decent. The auto glass place quoted me $435 + tax for the windshield replacement and new molding. Expensive, but better than I thought it was going to be.. so I'm set up for an appointment on Thursday. The glass is made by PPG they said.. the same company that makes the glass on most Toyotas.. fully warrantied against stress cracks, distortion, etc.
