00' Celica GT vs. 00' Civic SI [Archive]

Alright guys....given equal drivers, stock for stock, and the Celica being a 5-speed....what would the outcome be? Anyone with a celica GT race an SI that would like to share their story? Please...no flaming, im just curious.:cool: I know, I know...I should just go find one on the street and find out for myself...but believe it or not....not too much street racing goes on around here, and SI are surprisingly rare.

Given equal drivers the Si should win:mad:, if the Celica has the better driver it can win as well.

All things being equal the SI will definately win. I am sure a very good driver in a GT could take one though...like that guy Maelfyn. Not many modded SI's even get that 1/4 mile time.

Dude no you don't I raced a couple of the board members here, and I'm pushing 134 to the wheels which II'm pretty sure u're not and I have had them all about a car to half a car at the end of second but once they're inlift in third they just leave.
As far as the si, the si should win.

with equal drivers and all things being equal then the SI will win.. but its definitely a drivers race..

Raced one a while ago. He had the basic mods(intake,exhaust) and just got me by one car lenght. The only engine mods on my car are TRD exhaust and TRD drop-in. I bet that after I put the Injen RD I will stick right up to him or even beat him. I guess I'll have to find out!!!!

I actually raced two Si's, one with my car being stock and one with my CAI. In the race when my car was stock, the Si smoked me by about 3 car lengths at the end of the run to about 100 mph. That race was a rolling race on the highway. The second time was from a light and I had my Injen CAI. We were dead equal. Now with my exhaust I want to race an Si and win. So definitely get a CAI if you want to hang with the Si. Best part about the Si, is that most people don't know how to drive them.

Si(s) are hard to drive properly like the GTS, maybe more so because they have ****ty tires and are hard to launch. but a good launch, and proper shifting on both sides and the Si will pull away in 3rd hard.

i raced a si with my friends base rsx (160hp) and just barely won. Afterwards, i said that i was surprised that i could hang with him that well, and he told me he missed a shift. With a good driver, i think an si should at least beat the base rsx.

I dont know if the base rsx is faster than the celica gt. That would be a good race though. He told me that in the rsx his best time at the track was 15.75 in the 1/4 mile.

im not flamin or anything but the people that raced those civics can't be that good of drivers...i mean im not saying that im the best but i think i can hold my own..i used to race for mazda in the scc road racing series...i was supposubly the quickest shifter in that series..but i dont know...i raced many Si's with my gt and i am stock and they were stock and i beat em all except one that took me by maybe a nose length...all the rest we were either dead even or i beat them by about a nose length...and each time i raced one we must ahve raced at least three times...and i only lost to one like once....those cars have the 20 more hp but they dont have the torque that the celis have..they are pretty even cars and definitely can;t beat the celica by more than 2 or 3 cars lengths....and some body i used to race with in my series owned a stock one and we used to race all the time and he neve rbeat me..hes a great driver.....ok its too long but i just dont understand how umguys are loosign this much

OH NO PROBLEM..IM RIGHT ACROSS THE BOARDER..WHAT PART OF NYC AGAIN.....DEPENDS ON WHAT U HAVE DONE TO YOUR CIVIC....MY GT IS ACTUALLY A MUTANT GT SO ITS ACTUALLY AS FATS AS A GT-S...I WNE TOT THE DEALER AND THEY SAID IT IS LIKE 95% POSSIBLE THAT IT IS ONE CASUE HTYE DROVE IT AND THEY SAID IT DEFINITELY IS FASTER THAN ANY OTHER GT THEY HAVE DRIVEN AND MIMNE IS STOCK....BUT STILL THE GT AND THE SI ARE STILL AN OVERALL DEAD EVEN MATCH UP...I JUST DONT GET IT....I'LL RACE ON OUR NEW ROAD CORSE WE ARE GETTIN BUILT HERE..CANT WAIT TO TRY IT OUT....

I have I/H/E for now...
I guess my car is an ITR mutant as well because I have ran 14.67 with it recently in its current form.
And yes, the new Englishtown roadcourse is going to be the shiznit.
Let me know when you want to run. I have never ran a Celica GT from a stop. The only time I ran one was from a 60mph roll and I put like three cars on the dude up to about the top of fourth gear. (110mph).
You still want to race me? :D

yeah larry he ran a 14.6. he did it at atco about 3 weeks ago, while i was back home visiting. i wasn't there to witness it but he did show me the slips. it was pretty cold and sunny that day and kleefton had just the right set-up. no spare, no jack and his infamous 12psi on the left front wheel and 18 psi on the right front. he did manage to break 14's a couple of times and was trapping between 91-93mph. unfortunately he didn't get a chance to run any gts.

his car ain't no itr mutant, he'd like to think so. it's more like he's the mutant, but he's only got i/h/e.

I guess it's the same way you guys ran your 14.2s-14.3s.

Abnormally good track conditions and my car was feeling especially good that day.

Heck it still feels strong as hell right now. It just has started chirping third gear recently. It's almost like I am gaining horsepower with miles... Good thing because I dont have the cash flow for more mods right now. LOL

Honestly I dont know what it is, but I honestly am starting to believe that my car is a freak.

On the 14.67 I trapped at 93.7 which is closer to 94mph. I also trapped 93.6 on another run.

Bring on the GT-S. I surely am not afraid :)

Hey kleefton i want to race you sometime- I used to have the black gts auto that you destroyed, remember?:-) Now i have a gti- you could still beat me, i just want to see where i stand. All i have is a chip.

I've raced a 99 Si. Had intake, header, exhaust on it. It was one of my friends driving, but it wasn't her car and she had 4 18" rims and tires sitting inside. The road was kind of wet, my tires were slipping all the way through first. by the time i shifted into third i slowed down cause she was so far behind me. so i won, but she had extra weight in the car.

haha. I heard u've been tearing **** up with your new ride.

Anyways, I'd expect to lose to you from a roll. Third and fourth gear you're going to pull. But from a stop I have a chance. All my power is in the first three gears really. fourth is a big drop off and fifth sucks.

But lets run them anyways.

is there a date on when e-town's road course will open? or is it just supposed to be 'this spring'? there's a memorial day toyota/lexus meet organized by the supra guys there, and i'll probably go. they at least got the drag strip, autox and dyno. but i wanted to see the road course.

WTF is with the weather, btw...it just got hot all of a sudden. i wanted to check out westhampton at least once more while it was still cold...

That particular car if it's a CX model usually weigh betweem 2100-2200lbs.

I knew of one that ran 14.8-14.7s all day long. With an excellent driver I can see it run a 14.5. Their light weight helps them get off the line very quickly.

You should be able to inch him out on the top end.

What you have to really worry about are the GSR hatches. Quite a bit faster and much better top end than the B16s...

Hey what RPM do you launch your car? my friend Todd has a 99si Red with exhaust/intake. I take him off the line and he never catches up(i only have e/i...rest of the stuff sitting at my place)

I know the problem is off the line, I slip mine at 3500rpms and no spinning or wheel hop, i just take off and go.

I have tried driving his car but no matter what i do it spins or even worse, it has massive wheel hop. I tried launching from 4k????

what do you suggest????? thanks

I usually dump the clutch at 5k at the track or I slip it at 4500 on the street.

The best thing to do is to get some decent tires. I have Nitto 450s and feel they give me an edge vs other stock tyred Si off the line.

whats up guys .... in reguards tot hat e-town road course.... it looks badass ....i am a pilot and when i go flying i usually fly over it and check it out..the road caourse itself looks badass.....and it is always showing progress...... last time i flew over it was like 2 weeks ago and i usually circle around it and thy are close to completing it.....i saw it like 2 weeks ago when i went flying and it was all paved already....im going flying this sunday and i will fly over it..i will let u guys know the progress ojn it
