About 2weeks ago my friend showed me how to slide your car with the e-brake. ive done it on dirt but was allways scared of flipping the car on the cement, Me thinking the back tires were gonna catch and thats it. He told me this was how to get a front wheel drive car to drift. Since then on allmost every coner that i can (safley) drift...i try. I just dont quite have it yet. I allways seem to twist 180. So I was wondering if anybody here knows how to drift correctly with a celi. Im really having fun with it even though im not completing the turn.lol. ive had about 2-3 times were i didnt twist 180 but didnt punch the gas so lost it. If any body can help please do. Or if anybody gots a vid. please post. thanks.

1) go fast
2) turn hard one direction
3) pull the e-brake while holding the button in so it doesnt stay up and you can control the amount of rear lockage you want
4) over correct and turn the wheel the opposite direction you just turned
5)do all this with your right foot to the floor
6) dont do this in the rain :(

i won't get too involved. It's more than just tires, it doesn't do wonders for the breaks and puts strain on the suspension to a degree. if you are going to do it, please do it in a safe area. I just don't want to read about you trying it around a curve and swinging too wide and t-boning another car or fishtailing into another car. If you are going to do it, regardless of whether it is good or bad for the car, do it safely :)

i hear ya man. i try to do it as safley as possible if theres such a thing. i usally check the around the curve at least twice make sure nothings coming, and usally late at night. if any body else has tried drifting with the celi, please tell me about it and if you could do it. i know the celi isnt an ideal car for it. but hey.

i thought FWD can't drift.. just ass drag.. :shrugs:

maybe if u weight transfer and shift the weight.. control the understeer with left foot braking.. :shrugs: anyways..

have fun..

FWD cars power slide.

throttle induced oversteer is also fun and easier to keep undercontrol and after that learn leftfoot braking, in safe and empty areas of course.

Yeah, I always understood that drifting was a strictly RWD thing. Not that I doubt that you can blow a FWD car sideways in a turn, but I'm sure you cannot get it to behave the way a RWD car does.

In any case, I have never really tried drifting... so I cannot help you. But if I were you I'd look around my area for some tracks/courses that have drift days... they are out there, you just have to find them.

You can't drift in a FWD car...you can just powerslide...or ass-drag (the popular term)

Drifting is all about having a CONTROLLED slide, one that you've induced with countersteering, and maintain with throttle, and braking input. A FWD car would NOT be able to maintain the drift for very long, or with the same level of accuracy and control.

It's totally different.

I'm really surprised you guys are discussing this again..it's been discussed countless times before all with the same answer:

FWD can only ass drag.

RWD can Drift

4WD can do both. :gap:

As already stated, you're not drifting, you're powersliding. Read this to understand more....

Yepz, that's pretty much why I asked that one gentleman in that other thread:

I didn't know Celica's could drift? :wtf:

Practice in a controlled environment, like on the grass first, get your technique sorted.

Don't fuck around on public roads ripping your e-brake on. Not only stupid, but irresponsibly dangerous too.

grow up.

AWD Technicque...

Intermediate Right Hand turn on Tarmac:

Approach Turn in the middle of the Road

Swing the Steering Wheel sharply to the opposite Direction

Throw it back, Tap Brakes, to spin the car....

Control the Spin by Applying throttle and slide into the Apex of the Turn.

Counter steer as needed.

When exiting the car will want to step out so make sure you countersteer to avoid spinning or going face first into the Wall or off the Road.

drifting will actually make the celica turn slower, practice grip driving instead.

It is not possible to have a controlled slide in the Celica. Once you lose it, there is no control like in a RWD where u can keep the gas floored. When you lose it, you will spin out totally.

However, it is possible to do it without using the ebrake. On a 40kph right hander, this is how i have been able to "slide" the Celica:
1. Approach the bend at approx 70kph, before entering the bend quickly release the gas. This will throw the weight of the car to the front.
2. Simultaneously turn right. Since the rear is now extremely light with the weight in the front, the rear tyres don't grip as much and the rear will slide out.
3. There is no counter steering as such after the slide. If you are not sliding "too" much, just steer in the direction u wanna go as normal as the FWD kinda drags the rear of the car back into a straight line. If you are sliding "too" much, there is no way to correct (eg with counter steering).

There is a lot of practice to get it right and if you lose it, it will spin (VERY DANGEROUS on an open road so DONT TRY IT on an open road).

Best approach is to approach the bend at different (slower) speeds to work out the correct entry speed for your tyres. Its quite easy to do on a circuit/track esp since there are less objects such as lightposts/pedestrians/etc to hit. But if you are on a circuit, you'll know that sliding gives very very bad track times.

If you really want the thrill of drifting, get a RWD and join a drift or rally club.

Manny_TXtreme: What's in your Initial D series? Series 1, 2, movie, 3? What language is it in? I have the VCD movie in Cantonese-Chinese only. Once tried to put the Series 1 & 2 (Cantonese ver) onto VCD but not all were viewable on my DVD player - crappy "originals"...
