well, i posted a while back that I was grinding between 1st and second gear when I am over like 5000 RPM, and especially over 6000 RPM can't get it into second without it souding like metal grinding...someone (or a few people) on the board said it was synchros which is what I expected too...well too it to the dealership the other day, and the tech drove it, definitly the synchros, but HAPPILY they said its under the 5 year 60,000 mile warranty since its a tranny problem, so I am going to be able to get it fixed under warranty FREE!!! yay, hopefully my hometown dealership will cover this, I went to one in boston, and my hometown is Rochester, NY...so they will hopefully either fix it for just throw in a NEW tranny for me! Pumped! Thanks for everyone who helped me diagnose what was wrong and just to tell people who have grinding problems to get it into Toyota so that you can get it fixed under warranty...just felt like updating!
TIM
yeah my car is goin gin on wed next week.
50k miles right now and its been grinding since 25k but just in the past 5k miles it will grind even at 2k or 3k rpms from 1st to 2nd.
I just have this feeling i'm going to get ****ed over though, it always ****ing happens :(

Law, I had your ss installed in my car (remember, I bought it...) when i took it in, and they didn't care...
They told me to swap the stock shifter back in so they can do the warranty work, cuz a Toyota rep was going to see the car...
New tranny :D
Usman
lmao cool man, actually I never liked the SS hence the reason i sold it but you know lol its all good
How long did the whole process take you to get the new tranny in and such?

you won't get a whole new tranny for it.. they will most likely replace your first and second gear. I had my 4th gear replaced at about 49-50k miles due to some grinding, it was all covered under warranty.

they'll end up just replacing the gears that have damage before they think of replacing the whole transmission. I wouldn't worry about your mods either.. when i took mine in they didn't say anything about my mods.. and i have intake, exhaust, springs, rims, plus i had my body kit at the time. They just complimented how nice it looked.

whew, I was worryin about my warranty.
my mods are
H&R lowering springs
TRD exhaust
AEM CAI(cold air intake)
17's excel rims(gun metal)
Brembro crossdrilled and slotted rotors
fast and the furious, knight sticker
carbon fiber hood with TRD raised carbon fiber hood scoop
megan racing spoiler
TYC altezza tail lights( gunmetal backing)
hyper blue backup lights
indeglo gauges
blue LC light conversion( makes needles blue, my fuel and carbon fiber momo steering wheel
street glow golds series under carrage lights(green)
diamond plated floor mats
and I was afraid that they would void my warranty for some weird BS reason cause of my CAI or exhaust, when the problem is in the tranny itself, I grind in 4th and reverse.
too abnd they won't give me a new tranny;(

yeah I figured as much.... this is a new dealer I am taking it too since the last time I took my car to the dealer was due to my shift linkages breaking at like 30k miles... they tried to blame it on abuse by being like "oh they broke from abuse but we will cover them"
but we shall see how the new dealer treats me, hopefully i wont have 900+ dollars in **** stolen from my car this time :)
The other thing i don't have to worry about is that my car isn't very "ricey" so they will find it tasteful and compliment it as well :)

Reverse does not have syncro's so it will grind when the gears are still spinning.
To help reverse it helps to shift into 3rd and then to reverse and it should help eliminate any reverse grinding

5yr/60k mile powertrain warranty is normal for the car....
if you keep burning your *clutch* you'll need to replace your clutch quickly, it doesn't really hurt your tranny....

yeah its not the gears your burning, its the clutch.. stop letting off the clutch too slow and giving it too much gas.. learn the right way to drive it and you won't burn it.
