Got mine 3/00 but I had a 6th gen before it and so I was lurking around for Celica info before this board was here :)
Toyota Celica Online was about the only decent site for the Celica until 7'th gen came out. Toyota had to do something right for there to be such a large explosion since then.
I will probably have mine for a long time to come since I hardly put any miles on it while at College. Now with DD's kit around the corner it makes even less sense to take a huge loss on a car that is still 99.9% good as new.

I came on board in June 2000 (or july, we'll see when the post is up), but the 3 year lease was over 4/17/03, and I turned her back in. Cleaned, Waxed, and detailed one last time, and the mother****er's at the dealership still have my baby sitting in the back collecting rain and pollen. Poor thing probably has trees sprouting on it.
Two days before turning it in, I picked up a 1999 Miata with the sport package. Life is much better with the proper wheels propelling the car :D

got my car feb of 2001 but been on this board and also on celica.net since march of 2000. I remember back then celica.net had tons of pop-up...too many that I got frustrated and start posting on NC instead. I think a majority of people also got annoyed with it. At the moment, the car has 74k on it and still going strong, :) not gonna part it out and if I do, it will stay in the family no matter what, :D

back then it was all about free internet service such as NETZERO, :) and also the ad making money where you left the ads running and they give you .01 cent for every minute or something like that, the most I got from that was 150 bucks, :) I forgot what its called but I'm sure you all know what I'm talking about. Picked mine up at the beginning of November 1999, still have it and probably will for another year or two. Only has 45,000 on it right now. I think there are a few who have had their 7th gen longer than me but not many.
I guess you can tell I'm an oldster by the fact that I'm the one who wrote up the instructions on removing the reverse beep way back in Jan or Feb of 2000.
I'm also one of the ones who remembers TheMot and the old popup boards.

Yeah, Unity, I remember when we used initiate those email campaigns and what not to get more mods. Some members back then just didn't get what we were trying to accomplish. It's taking a long-a$$ time, but the Celica performance aftermarket is slowly getting to where it should be. Props for your efforts throughout the years, man.

Didnt you own the orange celica with vents on the side? Im still debating between the EVO8, STi, and IS300. EVO8 price droped dramatically, my local mitsu dealer is selling me a loaded EV08 with sport gauge(boost gauge and what not) for under 30k. After the STi comes out, I bet EVO8 price will drop some more.

Been here since, umm I don't know, mid 2000 or something, I came over after the mass celica.net exodus. DIDn't get my car until 2001 though. BTW whatever happened to PhaqGM and Spoolin? Oh yea LemonCelica how can we forget. I still remember reading the thread that the Alt Celica owner posted on celica.net when he had his XS turbo installed. Hopefulyl this site will eb around for antoher 7-8 years. I don't think I'll sell my Celica for along time. It'll make a goo dproject car in 10 years.

Nope, never owned a Celica, just the 1997 Saturn SC2, which I ended up keeping as a daily driver, and bought the 03 Cobra which so far is SICK FAST with no mods to date. When I start getting slaughtered by Vipers, Z06's and heavily modded supercars, then I'll probably start modding, but I don't usually run into those.
EVO 8 and STi are the same class of car, IS300 is just a luxury sport thingy and you pay for the Lexus nameplate.
To help finalize your decision between the EVO 8 and the STi (both harsh rides, built for performance, you'll feel every bump and groove in the road), read the latest U.S. Spec reviews of EVO8 vs. STi in Car and Driver and Road & Track (just in the mail this week). The EVO 8 is the best track car, and the STi is the best "around town" car with better straight-line acceleration and refined interior. To buy an EVO 8 and never take it to the track would be a waste of money.
The EVO 8 price won't drop because the car is still limited in quantities this year, and the STi will even be harder to get since there are only around 3500 units planned per year for the USA. Expect to pay at least MSRP for the WRX STi - so you will get a better deal on the EVO 8. Personally, I like the WRX STi better. The interior of the EVO 8 makes my Cobra interior look and feel like the best interior in the world lol .... EVO 8 is plain .... and when all is said and done, it still looks like a LANCER. So whatever your cup of tea is, go for it.
If you're considering the Lexus IS300, please consider the Mercedes Kompressor hatchback that sells for around the same price range as long as you don't buy crazy options. I like that one, my girlfriend's brother has the 5-speed automatic version and it's a fun ride and sounds great along with Mercedes luxuries.

I've been here registered since July of 2000, and I bought my Liquid Silver beauty in September of 2001. I was the first owner of a 2001 GT-S at the time, and everyone wanted to know what had changed for 2001.....essentially nothing!
It is used as my daily driver and weekend toy, as we use my wife's car for family duties. I still love the car, and I have kept mods to a minimum (17" RS Limited Mase with 205/45/R17 Yokohama Parada Spec 2's, OEM 16" wheels with Dunlop Winter Sport M2's, TRD exhaust, and red calipers). The car has performed extremely well, and had only been back to the dealer once in 29,000 miles, for the infamous belt tensioner TSB, and sticky rear brake slides.
Overall, I am very happy with the car, and I plan on keeping it for quite a while, as it is extremely fun and cheap to run (almost 30 MPG). Sure, I get excited about the new "flavor of the month", and in almost 3 years it's gone from RSX-S, to WRX, to 350Z, to RX-8, to G35 Coupe, and now to Evolution, yet I still love my Celica. Also, the 3-year point is where depreciation finally slows, and you can enjoy a really nice car, and yet retain some equity.

I dont really consider myself an "OG'er", but I still have mine after 2 years. Only 3 more to go before its paid off, and I can get rid of the mofo!

Bought, Oct. 1999 and turned in December 02 with 56,000miles, and still drove, ran, and looked new.
I ordered my new 03 celica, which should be here in a couple weeks.
The choice is still obvious. Need I say more.
Some people get it, some people never will.

Welps...still around..but obviously with a different car. I still love the Celica, though..and am seriously considering picking up a project Celica a few years later down the road and really going all out on it. I think picking up a nice used Celica GT, and turbo-ing the shiat outta it with no worries sounds like fun.
Plus...the Celica IS one of the most amazing cars around when it comes to it's looks.

Bought my 2000 Celica in April 2000 and joined NewCelica.org in Aug. 2000. My car is at 59,900 miles and I love my car. The Celica has never given me any problems so I'm trading it in for a 2003 Action Pack Celica GT in Solar Yellow. It's not a GT-S but I liked it just the same. I signed the papers last night and will be picking it up tomorrow. :D

Ive been here since the beginning too, just had to get a new name... I was the FIRST and Original "celicachick" heh.. still got my baby...
Registered Jan 2000, got the car Apr 2000. I have almost 57k and it's still running strong. I have a few mods and I'm happy with each one of them. I just started going to track days and realized just how much fun driving the celica could be. I just wish I would have started going sooner with my car! :burnout:
Had my Celica since Feb 00.

I owned Celica's for 8 years.......had a '92 GT for 5 years and then a 2000 GT that I bought back in January of 2000. I was a lurker for a long time till I joined back in September of 2000......as you can tell, I haven't posted in quite a while and all my old posts are gone. I turned the 2000 GT in back in January of this year (3-year lease), but had already joined the Honda camp back in December of '02 when I took delivery of a 2003 S2000.
I still love Celica's, but with all the current cars available for a just a little more dough, Toyota's offerings just aren't what they used to be. I test-drove the MR2 Spyder w/ the sequential manual (MSRP in the $27K range, 3-year lease rates in the mid-$400's) and it was just no contest compared with the S2000........same result when looking at an '03 GT-S. Toyota needs to introduce a competitive performance car in the $30K price range, a la Nissan 350Z, Subaru Impreza WRX STi, Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution, Honda S2000, Mazda RX-8, etc. As it sets, it's no surprise that their average buyer's age hovers in the mid-40's. And don't even get me started on their new Scion division.......... They need to offer a car that young Celica owners can graduate to when they get into the professional ranks, and that's something they are sorely lacking at this point. (Excuse me for the rant, it's just that I hated to leave Toyota after 8 years of Celica ownership........)
