i heard that w00t (woot) is short for "wonderful loot". it originated with the game Everquest. players would yell "woot" when they found "wonderful loot". it eventually became used for any expression of joy.

i've also heard that it is derived from "root". when a unix hacker would gain root access, he would yell "root!" in celebration of his achievement.

Here is all the n00b info you need. Here are the rules.
1. Always pull the valve cover and look at the cams before buying a GTS/GT.
2. If the clutch is soft when you test drive it, even though it is the black 02' GTS 6 speed that you have been looking for for 9 million years and it is right up the street, dont buy it.

These tips will keep you from being in the mental state that I have come to.

One more tip.
If you break a valve just give up and buy a whole new motor. Trust me.

I will take pics once I get a camera here. I was just posting out of frustration because I am fighting with my 7th gen right now. The main thing is man, have a mechanic check it out totally. Compression test is a must. That will tell you if your cams and valves etc are fine. Oil pressure is a big thing too. If your main and crank shaft bearings get worn(Happens when you run it on cheap oil or run it out of oil) your oil pressure will suck. A mechanic can check all of these. Also check the cars history via carfax or something like that. They will hide stuff to sell it to you with super heavy oil to hide engine noise or just overtightening things. Also, the clicking you hear when your car runs. There are two types of clicks. I went to toyota worried that I had what sounded like a lifter tick(that is before I ripped it apart and found the roller assembly) and they told me it was fuel injectors. It turned out, my rollers were heat warped and the ticking was my worn cams slapping the rollers. Bad news. A compression test would have told me this. 3 weeks after I bought it, my little 7 gave up, threw the cel(Check Engine Light) and died on me. It was a sad day.

SS-II - Super Strut II (Japanese Celica Model GTS Equiv.)

JFYI,

SS-II is not Super Strut Suspension. In Japan, they have Celica SS-I and Celica SS-II. SS-I - it's GT (1ZZ-FE), but SS-II - it's GT-S (2ZZ-GE).

SSS - it's Super Strut Suspension, which have a lot of additional suspension arms, struts, different ammo and a bit different steering mechanism (maybe something else - I do not remember). SSS provides much better handling than regulr GT-S suspension. Only GT-S (SS-II) may have SSS.

Actually, I do not know why they're calling last 10 year celica models SS-I, SS-II, SS-III. But I'm pretty sure that it's not Super Strut.

BadTOYO
05-06-2005, 11:46 AM
Anyone has more details on super strut?

Super Strut - A multi-link strut used on some AE101 and all AE111 and Celica ST205. The system improved cornering stability and turn-in response but made them real headache for alignment shops.

VVTL-i - the L (lift) basically states the lift as well as the timing of the valves opening and closing is variable. It changes how the engine breathes over the rpm band so that torque (and thus HP) can be optimized.

Someone asked about lift earlier...

Lift kicks in around 6000RPMs when the engine uses a different set of lobes on the cams. It opens the valves more and allowed more air and fuel into the combustion chamber.

RPM-Revolutions/Rotations per Minute
cams-camsshafts, they time the opening and closing of the valves and are connected to the timing belt.

Pfc?
is the Apex-I Power FC. It is a full standalone programmable ECU for 1zz/2zz applications. You can write and edit your maps with a laptop.

Used by lots of the FI high horsepower guys. Can also be used to fine tune a n/a beast.

bbmod, anyone?
this is an intake system hack.

Basically, your stock airbox has some fins around the MAF sensor that helps equalize the reading of the sensor (without going into a ton of detail, the fins slow air velocity making the sensor able to do its job more effectively). The "mod" involves cutting that part away from your stock airbox and shaving it so that you can integrate it into your current intake (this means cut that part out, shave it into a circle, and cut your current intake at the MAF sensor, and replace with the piece from your airbox you "fixed up". Hose couplers keep a airtight connection. Reset the ECU fuse after installation, crank the car let it run for 10 mins and go for a drive. I have some "final product" pics if it helps you out any, just PM me and I'll send them to you.

Thank Bluebomber for this, that's where your BB comes from. He fig'd this out for all of us who run intakes but dont have the capability of "fine tuning" w/ a PFC standalone controller.

Thank you for that. Do you know what they cost and where a good place is to get them?
Cost really all depends on if you are buying new or buying used.

You will end up needing more than just a PFC and commander if you want to make some real power. The beauty of the PFC is that you can flash whole maps to it via laptop. So you can fine tune your setup under all conditions and load that to the laptop to flash to the box in the car.

The ebay auctions for "2zz pfc's" yield about a 650-700 dollar price tag. These come with the "commander", but from what I understand the commander will display you some good data, but only allow you to change things one cell at a time. When it comes to remapping your whole car, the commander isn't the ticket.

There is a box called a datalogger that you can hook up via USB or Serial connection that will literally log all engine data for you as you drive. Since using a PFC will nullify your "check engine light" this data logger is your best source for determining issues with your tuning on the ecu. Of course, to do it up right at minimal you will need a wideband air fuel gauge.

There is also a company called Teiwa that sells them for a similar price to the ebay auctions, but they take about 2 months to ship it to you and for it to clear customs.

I can get you one if you so desire, and it will be at your door in about a week and a half (pending customs clearance). The price is pretty close to what you can get by browsing ebay. But, you never know what you'll end up w/ from ebay.

Let me know if i can assist you further,

This thread is hear to make the browsing and reading of this site easier for those who are not familiar with the abbreviations.

telling me to google it doesnt make it much easier. not in all of the 4 pages of this thread have i read a response such as "google it" or a response that tells someone to reasearch it to find out.

/b/ being

are u saying that /b/ = being? cuz after i searched, all i found was that it was relating to the random section of the 4chan boards, but now ur saying...

does not belong in here.

and now im confused. cant i just get a simple "/b/ = ______" response and not get smartass answers or get bashed on for not knowing?

GSBoek
02-21-2010, 05:14 AM
Ok, let me try one more time:

This thread is the official newbie abbreviations thread.

/b/ is not an abbreviation like LMAO, FTW, CEL, MAF or any such terms used around here to make typing faster.

The purpose of this thread isn't to function as a tool to find explanations of things outside the scope of browsing and reading posts on newcelica.org that is why I said to google /b/ as it would be similar to googling "super novas" for example.

Now to provide a simple answer for you:

/b/= the random section of the 4 chan boards.

lilmexicanoboi
02-21-2010, 02:16 PM
i would technically consider /b/ as an abbreviation because instead of saying "the random section of the 4chan boards", you just say "/b/"... just like instead of saying "For The Win", you say "FTW". but were both right. u do have a point and im sry if i went "off topic" (i guess u can call it that), but i figured i could at least get some help since this isnt COMPLETELY off subject. its not like im asking how to get rid of my Check Engine Light...

/b/= the random section of the 4 chan boards.

thank you! thats the answer i was looking for! :gap:
