not again.
hmmm
6-speed = 0-60 in mid 6
auto = 0-60 in mid 8 if your lucky.
it gets worse in the 1/4 mile so i wont go into that
an auto gt can compete with and auto gts ive heard.
and 5 speed gt can woop a gts auto's ass

2000CelicaSpeed and I did one run on a street road. Me: auto Gt-S, him: 6spd manual, and yes he beat me. But... When the light turned green I took him off the line and stay half a car length ahead untill I had to shift into 2nd when he quickly jumped God knows how many lengths ahead of me... So if your gonna do a lot of 1st gear runs we auto's have a chance :) But he does have a lot of weight, have a system, 18' wheels, etc. But he had an AEM CAI, TRD Exhaust and Short Shifte... and me with a Kaminari Body Kit and just TRD exhaust, but I definetly think my S2000 antanna helped me a bit giving me some more upper range power ;)

Then why is it the 6spd is good for 2.3 60' times, and the auto is lucky to get a 2.6?:silly:

My friend went to the track in his 6-speed with an auto GTS. He was a full 2 seconds faster in the 1/4 mile all day. That says it all. The 5-speed GT runs the 1/4 faster than the auto. Is that a clear enough picture for you?

Well, you have to take into account reaction time, I floored it first when the light turned green while 200CelicaSpeed reacted later then me and also spun his tires, so auto can sometimes win off the line...

And yes, I know my auto GT-S is slow, but my car looks tight :)

well damn I wonder how much a turbo would affect things because isnt it true that the turbo on an auto would be good for dragging simply because it can hold boost better when shifting gears just something i have heard correct me if I am wrong please

only reason auto would be better with turbo and not necesarily better but different is the launch.. the Celica would have ALOT more torque with a turbo and the auto would be able to take this to its advantage while the manual would have problems getting traction..

also...with a turbo or other major power adder, the auto GTS would be quick for dragging from a stop to about 130mph...if you can trap 97-100mph...then definitely you'd be pulling hard at the end of the quarter all the way to 130.
i'm gonna get nitrous soon, i just came upon a nice load of cash...but i'm gonna get UR's pulley set and an exhaust first (about $800 total...almost as much as the nitrous) just to see what's the best n/a time i can get out of this stupid thing. i want to trap 86mph or better n/a :D every mph after 80 is worth more when i get nos (i'll be spraying an extra 25 shot after 80 when it falls off the big cam).
EDIT: my stupid ass forgot to paste a link to my site http://subzero.mine.nu/celica/ <-- look for the files that start with 'autoGTS_6spdGTS_'...that's auto GTS and 6-speed GTS both with Injen CAI doing some runs from a roll at 60. you need divx to view, which is also there (file name is divx_31alpha.exe run that file, then run the 'run me first')

This might be a stupid question, and im a newbie, but would a supercharger or turbo fit in the Auto??? I dont know if the trans is bigger or even if that matters, or if the engine components setup is different, I havent really seen the inside of the engine compartment except at the dealer, cause my car (2002 GT-S Auto) wont be here for about 2 more months. IM REALLY HOPING IT WILL cause i want to supercharge this, the problem with the gt-s auto is that it shifts out of lift or its powerband right?? so then if the turbo is installed this should really help bring more power down to where the auto shifts, and launches should be very good with all that torque and an auto?? sorry if these are all stupid ?'s but i just dont want to get false hopes about this so im consulting the experts . Just wanna kick some domestic/honda A$$ :D

well here i smy go at this if you get the auto you can run it in sportshift and then you do all the shifting and from what i have been told it is far superior to get a turbo for this car instead of the sc the speel given to me was due to the fact that the turbo complements the cars natural powerr band and characteristics as far as power go and a super charger would just stickk all that power in other places as well you cant get any where near as much power with a sc than with a turbo and that shopuld help you kick some mustang and camaro ass however the cobras ands ss may still be a little fast i am not sure and I am definetly no expert but you can definetly anihilate the little red badge hope that helps

Hello.
Asian Honey and I timed her auto GTS. Three runs with me driving averaged about 10.7 to 60mph. With her driving it was like around 10.5 average. We were doing the runs with the auto in overdrive. Our start method was left foot on the brake and right foot over the gas. We would slam the gas and release the brake at the same time. I heard that shifting at the redline with the sport shift is suppose to shave another few tenths off so maybe we will try it that way some time. I think that most stock GTS autos at sea level and shifting automatically should get you a low 17 or high 16 second 1/4 mile in good weather. The driver also is a factor. Every one of her runs was 0.2 seconds faster than mine.
I know for a fact about the GTS going good off the line is 1st gear. I have raced her in my Sunfire GT auto and she beets me to 30mph easy. While I am sitting their spinning she is gone. I catch up and pass her around 60mph but when we get around 80 it flip flops again and she passes me. We had a high speed run on I-80 in Pennsylvania and about 80mph she caught right up to me and was on my ass at 100mph and she was on her 2-way radio telling me to get the hell out of her way. lol!

Raw Iron: Are you reallu saying the 0-60 of a GT-S auto is 10 seconds??? That's slower then my 4cly Auto Camry! What did you time with? A stop watch?

0-60 for an auto GT-S is not around 10 sec. As stated before, it's in the 8's. If the best you can do is 10 sec., then no offense, but you can't drive (hehe, funny. Can't drive an automatic :D ).

actually 0-60 is closer to 9 sec if you powerbrake and shift off the rev limiter (brushing against the rev limiter just before you shift...VERY LITTLE will let it drop a little higher (50-100)rpm after the shift). i got the time from my GTech, and videos (i went frame by frame and got a rough estimation within a few tenths of the 0-60). stock auto GTS probably does it in low-mid 9s.
and from my experience, the auto GTS' first gear sucks...maybe she took off on you cuz you were spinning the tires and that's impossible in this car.
otherwise, i've gone from a dead stop without launching, and every car (Si, GTS 6-speed, IS300 auto) takes off. the Si got a little over a carlength by 30-40. the GTS 6-speed got 1.5-2.0 and the IS300 got almost a carlength. the first gear is really tall and has a lot less torque multiplication than the first gear in these cars. i've raced an auto ZX2, and he also got a carlength (both of us powerbraking) by the top of first.
even the lift in first doesn't do much. so you might as well consider that it's going 0-60 without any lift (it only hits it from 35-45mph).
